Today's adventure at the retina specialist was a flop.

My eye would not dilate so laser treatment of the PCO (Posterior Capsule Opacification) in the eye was not possible.

The plan now is to treat it when the next vitrectomy is performed. All the paperwork is in place for it; just waiting for a date.

Silly question, the type of steroids that get you an 80 game suspension in MLB or some other type, presumably corticosteroids

As far as I can tell, corticosteroid as opposed to anabolic steroids (which are the muscle building ones).

I'm reasonably sure that pretty much any steroid is disallowed if you're a competitive athlete. OTOH, you _can_ get a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) if you actually have a medical need for it. Hence Bradley Wiggins could use a steroidal anti-histamine.

Since March they've been remodeling next door where a museum used to be (and after that it had a furniture store for a couple of years). From what we understand the building is going to get offices upstairs and on the ground floor there's going to be meeting rooms and a kitchen. It has been noisy, but since last week you only hear the occasional hammering or drilling, no more heavy power tools. The work six days a week; Monday to Saturday and start around 7am. Most days that isn't a problem I wake up around 7am, on Sunday it's quiet but on Monday (my weekend is Sunday and Monday) I get woken up at 7am.

I was happy that I was able to sleep in a bit this Monday. But next Monday I doubt that's possible. They started doing some serious maintenance on one of the apartment building behind us, for the past three days they've used a crane and they are using heavy and loud power tools.

One of the neighbours opposite us on the front is painting the outside, they are now in the electric sanding phase. So between 7am and 4pm there is no escaping noise, whether it's heavy power tools or the whining of the sanding machines.

Definitely used to be. I remember the days when a mixed shot of coritisone plus Novocain was routinely administered to football players with an injury even during the middle of a game. But it's been a long time since they could do that to a professional cyclist even mildly close to competition. And out of competition only by applying for a TUE, I believe. These days they can't even take Tramadol. (Was banned in 2019, I believe.)

Hell, I get the damned things when I need them. Well, not as often as I "need" them, but I get them.

I have osteoarthritis in the knee. Once during a bad flareup the doctor gave me a shot. It helped for years.

A few posts back Peter mentioned a vitrectomy, I suspect it's a day surgery procedure, hence the need for a time.
