Original location of files/ books in the library
Hi,
Although I am using calibre for ages, I did it only for converting. I just started looking into my library, using the powerful Add from folders and sub-folders. I believe this is very powerful (is looking into archives, iso images, etc) because I cannot find the books that the library shows. Please help: 1. How can I find the original location which was the source of the file? 2. How can I add that to the list view? 3. How can I create a virtual library (the books are not duplicated on my HDD, once in the original location, second in the Calibre folder)? Thank you |

#1 Now? Windows Search (no guarantee that will turn up the version that was added)
#2 There is now a Plugin: getfilename that will log into a custom column AT THE TIME OF ADDING #3 Nope. Simply delete / move to archival storage the source book. It is in the FAQ Want to change... Just think of the hashup if you deleted or renamed a random storage location. Things INSIDE the Library (folder) should never be touched EXCEPT with Calibre. |

Thank you theducks.
1. Neither MacFinder nor Win+E does not find the files. 2. I installed it. I deleted the library. I am reading folders and sub-folders (for 179k books) since I did not find a ReRead source button. 3. I could not find what you are referring to https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html. I imagine you recommend setting the Calibre library where my source books are (DropBox in a task-oriented structure https://johnnydecimal.com/). |

Please don't store a working calibre library in any network storage. The question if not if but when your library will be corrupted. See I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS? in the calibre FAQs.
And no, you can't reference books from outside the calibre library as a virtual library. |
