Looking at the KF8 in what?

If the calibre ebook-viewer, then I don't think the calibre viewer can work with Kindle proprietary fixed layout books? But I can't find any explicit documentation to confirm that, so I could be wrong.

Kovid has said a number of times that Calibre does not support fixed layout.

You won't get a conversion unless you go into the code and remove all the fixed layout code. There is no easy way to do this.

If you remove the Layout code, the results might resemble what you get with some PDF .

Think moving into a new house (living room):
You stand at the entry as they unload the van: Put that THERE, Put that over there, put that back there...

The items placed do not need to arrive in order and must be instructed where to go. OTOH a normal ebook is always just below the last item
