Okay, I turned the light all the way off and turned on my booklight by clipping it.
It was not blurry this way and the pictures even seem crisper when going to the library screen. Problem is of course I cannot use the booklight to read this thing with as a light right on the screen causes a nauseating glare and halo affect This was never a problem before, so something must be up with my screen's lighting. It's too dark for me to see without some light but I will try and adjust as low as I can and continue to use reading glasses with it for now. I did read a paperback for hours today without issue. The Oasis used to be great with my eyes, but something is going on with it. Since the warm light doesn't work right anymore, maybe it's related. The screen is not damaged and looks fine other than something with the lighting is, I believe, causing eye strain for some reason. This is causing my eyes to go a bit blurry after only a very, very brief time of reading. I'll keep messing with the settings since obviously something with the device has changed. The only thing I can think of otherwise is my eyes suddenly don't like lit screens, but that doesn't make sense to me either. I have some older paperwhites I need to charge up. The screens on those feel so small now so I don't enjoy reading with them much, but I may try one of those this weekend and see what happens if I start having issues with the oasis for now. Another option is to get an led lamp from Ikea and use that to read your Kindle. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/pr.../?q=led%20lamp Last edited by JSWolf; 08-05-2022 at 07:22 PM. |

I do have a Best Buy, but not close, it's actually a pain to get to and over a 50 minute drive. The area its in is the "mall area" near an interstate exit with six lanes in each direction *shudders* |

Do you know anyone else with a Kindle or a Kobo to try?

I am wondering about it and wanted to clarify that it's not the the words are necessarily blurry, the whole screen feels softened somehow. I don't know how to explain it. Anyone who has paid attention to my posts when Oasis is discussed should know I LOVE the Oasis 3. I have used it almost daily for over 2 years now. I know something is different, but can't explain it.
It's never had much light until you turned the brightness up a considerable degree (with the one I got anyway). I always left some of the warmth on, which would counteract the whiteness. I'm wondering if the warmlight is not working right now, and it's too glaring perhaps. This is going to bug me obviously. |

Sadly, no, not that I see in person regularly. It's probably a mix of me needing reading glasses or a small prescription finally due to aging and the screen's warm light going out. I know for a fact that part isn't working right anymore.

As for your eyes, I do agree that getting them checked is a good idea. And if you need glasses then you do. I used to have single vision glasses that I would take off when I read. Now I have progressive lenses. You could try a web search for stores nearby that sell Kindles. Or you could buy other Kindle from Amazon and see how you get on and if you don't get on, you could return it. |

Maybe firmware is corrupted. I'd try a reset of the device and see if that clears it up.
I have some eye issues with CSR in my right eye. I use reading glasses with the left glass punched out. I couldn't do without my oasis 3. |

Are you using computers or tablets etc a lot? These can cause eyes to tire, so that using an e-ink screen can become unpleasant. Also try reading on the screen using a lamp late at night to see if the problem persists. The fact that the comfort light is no longer orange is a cause for concern. Definitely try one of your old PWs.

It's more obvious in dim light, because with the pupils open wider you have a smaller field of sharp vision. You will eventually need reading glasses, but for now reading in brighter light with a larger font will work. [But it's definitely worth have a proper eye test at an optician] Last edited by pdurrant; 08-07-2022 at 12:05 PM. |

Except for extremely nearsighted people. I'm 50, have been very nearsighted all my life (needing -11 lenses) and I have noticed no changes in the way my eyes work, regardless of the light. The eye doctors I've visited have said the same.
