I do like Oliver Platt and I like the Irishman--can't think of his name now--that portrayed the Sheriff. (Or whatever). Brendan Gleeson, that's him. The "you're fat" conversation between the sheriff and Hector (Platt) is excruciating, all things considered.

I'm through 8 seasons of Vera now and liking it more and more. The main characters could be more interesting - say like Line of Duty - but the episodes are well written with enough complexity to be interesting without being confusing. And Blethyn has no peer when it comes to the wry chuckle.

Last night I watched Antlers, which I thought was okay, I'm not a huge fan of creature features. I would have like more lore about the Wendigo.

Then I watched The Uninvited from 1944. Which I enjoy, though it always takes me a bit to get into classic movies. The pacing was so much different than current movies. But it was a nice change of pace from what I've been watching lately.

Tonight I was in the mood for something over the top. So I watched both National Treasure films whilst cross stitching. The first one I had seen in the cinema when it was released, the second one I hadn't seen before. Are they good movies? Not particularly. Are they fun and entertaining? Yep.

Tomorrow I might start with Wayward Pines. I read the books, I like the first book in the series and liked it, the other book I liked less. I can't remember if I watched any episodes or not. Let's see if it hits the spot. I'm in just one of those moods where I want to watch TV but I don't know what I want to watch.

Still hitting up Father Brown more than I probably should. Most of the fedoras suddenly went from brims being turned down in front and up in the back, to being both turned down between seasons 8 and 9. Interesting. I miss seeing the occasional trilby from the earlier seasons. I often wonder if they got to choose their own hats?

The season 8 finale was one of my favorite episodes to date.

EDIT: My mistake. The back brim of Inspector Mallory's fedora seems to change from up to down from scene to scene.

I can’t help associating the trilby with Frank Sinatra and it seems far too swinging for Kembleford. But then, I’m only in the middle of season 3; maybe it become more happening? Ring-A-Ding-Ding!

I swear that he sits on it. From a continuity standpoint, I have oft wondered if they're doing it on purpose...

Why is a show based on a character (Sister Boniface) from a show set in the early '50s (Father Brown) set in the early '60s? Very puzzling.

I'm remembering Sid sporting a "toward the back of the head" type of hat in some of the early seasons. I may be misremembering the style (though I don't think it was a pork-pie).

I don't recall any "Luck Be a Lady Tonight" episodes later on (but there may or may not be a bit of clergy baccarat).

I rather like Sid's pushed-back-hat look. OTOH, I mostly just like Sid, anyway. And I like almost anyone better than Lady whats-er-face's niece. Bunty, who seems to be an annoying add-on for no reason.

I'm a fan of the hat, too. I found it, by the way. I would definitely call it a trilby. That's most certainly a "stingy" brim.

I'm neither here nor there on Bunty. Inspector Mallory often bugs me more.

Agreed. And Sid totally carries it off. I was thinking more of the fedoras sported by the inspectors.

On the subject of Lady whats-er-face, it really, really, really annoys me that they get her title wrong. Surely someone at the BBC knows better and it’s close to a dealbreaker for me. One of my absolute pet peeves. Originally I assumed that she was a peer’s daughter and correctly referenced, but I gather now that she’s a countess, i.e., married to an earl. Earl’s daughter? Lady First Name. Earl’s wife? Lady Title Name. So she should be Lady Montague and never, never Lady Felicia.

This type of thing seems to happen a lot with “period” shows. They pride themselves on the clothing and set design but get a lot of the basics wrong, and it’s because they don’t know, don’t care, or have a contempt for their audience, who they assume are too stupid to know. I suspect a mix of all three.

And not only are there people at the BBC who know better, I guarantee that in the course of the show they’ve been corrected and they really don’t care/think the audience is too stupid to know better.

Good lord, it happens ALL the time. Not just in period-piece TV. I mean, exactly how many people used to religiously say "Princess Diana," instead of "Diana, the Princess of Wales" or the like? It's endemic.

Nobody EVER says (for example), "Lady Peter" rather than Lady Harriet, amirite?

ALTHOUGH, I have to add--if a commoner (man) marries a titled woman, it's not like HE gets renamed with something possessive, though, is it?

(Just being a bit cranky 'bout that....)

I believe I've heard "Lady Montague" a couple of times throughout. But yes.... it's been "Lady Felicia" for the vast majority.
