We're working through Vera. Worth watching IMO though not one of my favorite British series. Not sure where to next - Acorn & PBS have lots of new seasons to catch up on, so maybe Hidden or London Kills.

I wasn't in the mood for Inspector Morse, I realized. Plus, I got so many series and films I haven't seen on my to watch list that I want to focus on those for a while. So last night I first watched the documentary Victoria's Secret: Angels and Demons, which was interesting and a lot of it linked to Epstein. After that I watched the first episode of the new Netflix series Resident Evil. Normally I don't like zombie films/books, but I can vaguely remember enjoying the first Resident Evil film, so I thought I could give it a try. And I thought it was okay. Good enough to continue tonight.

Anyone familiar with the Danish series Wisting? Ran across it on AMC+ - looks like it might be worth checking out?

I find that I can't binge bloody Morse. Too damned exhausting.

I don't like the character of Morse, at least the older Morse. I've seen a couple of episodes of Endeavor and did like him. But I like the mysteries and the setting.

This afternoon I binged 5 episodes of Resident Evil whilst cross stitching and will finish the last three tonight.

I'm not sure what to watch next. With current temperatures (today's hot as hell, tomorrow it's hotter than hell) it'll probably be something easy.

Morse is definitely an acquired taste and it's entirely possible that he's...he's a man for a different age. His irascibility, etc. is unlikely to be for everybody. I think he was far more nuanced in the books, but hey...

I was just thinking that a binge of those might be popcorn-worthy, although that last one, the Raccoon City one? Blergh.

If you guys watch the Resident Evil show, you'll have to let me know what you think. I'm also not a zombie person. I never could get into AMC's The Evil Dead, or whatever that was. Walking, that's it, Walking Dead.

I had been watching and enjoying Hulu's original, "The Old Man," but in...I think it's the 4th-5th episode, something completely nuts happens. I mean..you can't get past it. You think "that's absolutely not what he would have done. He'd have handled this "problem" a completely different way" and it utterly shattered the suspension of disbelief for me. Haven't been able to watch it since.

I watched episode 2 of Grantchester (airing in the US now) on TV and during the week have watched, episodes 3, 4 and 5 on PBS Passport. One more episode. I still like it, but it hasn't been as good this season, in my opinion.

After I watched episode 6, I will get back to the rest of S2 of Endeavor (2nd time but haven't watched since it was on TV some years back, about 2014).

That 2021 movie doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned. RE begins and ends with Jovovich
I've heard nothing good about the tv series so I'm avoiding it on general principle that my tv viewing time is too precious to waste...

I really liked the first 2-3 seasons of Grantchester, until the show seemed to completely leave the rails. I gave up on "the new guy" pretty early on. Just didn't have the same spark and the whole "mystery" buddy-cop/priest vibe disappeared. Nah.

Yes, we gave up on that movie too. Just...I don't think we made it through 20 minutes, possibly less. It was abysmal. I agree that Jovovich pretty much drives the series. Or even any of the secondary characters (those that might be left!). But total strangers, with some standard, made-for-TV-movie scary zombie stuff? Meh.

The newer vicar, Will, in Grantchester gets love and lust mixed up.

Honestly, I thought that the first vicar did, too. ;-)

I have no idea what happened to that first actor--I guess if you can leave paying jobs, it's good news--but for me, the plotline where they wrote him out was simply absurd and I can't suspend that much disbelief. I tried the new guy--really, I did, mostly because I'm frequently desperate for stuff that both Mr. H and I can watch together--but just didn't warm the cockles of my heart.

I finished Grantchester tonight. The way it ended, I am not sure that there will be any more. The last episode had two major events.

I watched another episode of Endeavor. I'm still in season 2.

Tonight I watched All the Old Knives, with Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton. It was an okay thriller. Nothing special.

Right now I'm watching Lake Placid. Which really doesn't know what it wants to be; a creature feature thriller, an adventure film (the soundtrack) with humor or a campy combination of both. Oliver Platt's look is quite something. But Betty White cursing up a storm and being sarcastic is a treat. Also Mariska Hargitay as a ditzy woman is just something I never expected to see.

I thought it was utterly predictable and a real letdown, given how much casting money they'd put into it.

I dunno, I have a soft spot for Lake Placid. Not sure why; possibly Oliver Platt--I think it's just the chemistry of the acting crew.
