@thiago.eec: that has nothing to do with version 6. https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...7b3d6b4e3d82dd

Firewall did not work. Calibre CAN download metadata, just not the covers. So I guess it is not really totally blocked?

(win10 pro if important)

Can this fix be added to Calibre 5.44 for those unable to run version 6? Thanks.

This is getting quite tiresome, Jon. Please stop flogging the dead "upgrade to Window 10 (it's free!)" horse. Find another hobby.

config_64bit (folder)? No such beast in my config folder.
As mentioned elsewhere, my configuration folder is at the location referenced by CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY. Which is normally set to C:\_AppData\Calibre\Config_64bit. I have a couple of other config folders e.g. C:\_AppData\Calibre\Config_Default.

If you haven't already, look for *.rcc files in C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\calibre.

There were qt cruft folders in ..\AppData\Local (cache, calibre-cache, calibre-ebook.com, and calibre-parallel) and in ..\AppData\Roaming (calibre-ebook.com)

I deleted them all, then immediately after starting calibre and viewing an EPUB, I had a 'cache' folder in ..\Appdata\Local and a 'calibre-ebook.com' in ..\Appdata\Roaming.

No doubt the others will come back in the fullness of time Ψ³

Interestingly, I don't see anything similar for other Qt based packages - e.g. Sigil, qBittorrent and Malwarebytes

Sigil-Qt6 has not been released yet. When it is, I'm sure similar things will happen. There were some webengine profile settings defaults that changed from Qt5 to Qt6. We fought for a bit with localStoragePath and default "off the record" profiles, but I believe we finally got the vast majority of webengine stuff being written to Sigil's %appdatalocal% preferences folder. But there may still be folders we haven't encountered yet. We'll see.

Did that a while back. Even did a reinstall when I did not find it.

Just update my Laptop (rarely used now I am retired for real)to Calibre6:
It has the correct icon
BUT does not have any RCC files in appdata (any place)
