There is no way you can reliably patch a file in the face of arbitrary changes, so no.
And in any case that's not going to get you no navbars https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...ce395f660279ce |

It does not need to be reliable. The only requirement would be that it would run after the recipe.*If it broke, it would be the customizer's problem. But now you have just killed half of my use-case.
However, now that MOBI*is no longer going to be accepted on Kindles, what is going to be the way to avoid navbars? As far as I*know, if I*set my preferred output to EPUB, I get navbars. Ok, great, if I knew you would disable this I would not have pointed it out. It really perplexes me why users cannot choose to get rid of navbars (that for some of us just take up space and present spam, especially the line about the article having been downloaded, that feels like adware). However, in order to have maintainable code, you probably should also patch the five recipes that were up until now using no_inline_navbars. I*suspect their authors, who probably hate navbars as much as I do, will be superbly pleased. |

So, by setting the Preferred output format to mobi in Preferences>Behaviour (no matter I would actually prefer other formats) and putting "EPUB,AZW3" to formats to my Kindle's e-mail in Preferences > Sharing books by email, the news gets downloaed in mobi without the navbars, and then get converted to EPUB (still no navbars!) and sent to Kindle via Amazn servers, which presumably then converts it back to mobi or azw3 as my Kindle definitely does not support EPUB. Why would we do things in a simple way when we can do them in a complex way:-).

Sideloading is annoying. However, I*just tried and what is annoying is that "skip to next article" is lost. Other than that, the TOC is displayed slightly differently, but that is not a big deal (I*do not undrestand what is so great about it that in Kovid's eyes it replaces the navbar - nor do I*understand what is so great about the navbar for it to need any replacing at all).
My use case for fetching news is mostly when I am travelling without my computer, so sideloading is not an option anyway. |
