This has been going on for several months, as that Reddit thread shows, and Amazon has yet to fix it. I am also seeing the reduced options with the book I am having trouble with. Fortunately, it’s only one book so far, and I can open it by going through the store.
I flatly refuse to reset the device and thus have to redownload all my books. I am one of those people who does want my entire library on my kindle because I travel, I don’t always have wifi access, and I want access to all of my purchased books when I want it. Amazon is being slow about fixing this. There is a feedback feature in the kindle device, and at this point I think the only option is to make frequent and liberal use of it. |

I may wait a bit to see if Amazon will fix this before doing a reset. I really am not looking forward to redownloading all my books plus sideloading what wasn't purchased from Amazon...

I reset my other 2 Kindles and the problem is gone on them as well.
It seems to be an issue with Sync not updating the local catalog properly. Reset rebuilds it from scratch. Which is not to say that the issue won’t recur. It did not fix an issue with certain books whose Author metadata disappears when they are downloaded. That’s probably something they need to fix upstream. I have not seen these issues with the Kindle apps. There are occasional ‘catalog issues’ (e.g. books not showing in correct collections) but they (iOS and Android) have a ‘Sync’ feature in the More menu that rebuilds the catalog and clears it up. They should add this ‘full sync’ feature to Kindles so Reset is not necessary. Even though it can take the better part of an hour or longer to complete. |

It might be that one of the sqlite databases in /var/local got munged and maybe it could be fixed with an SQL command. (Of course, that can only be checked on a device with jailbreak,)

I noticed a few weeks ago that this problem is now fixed. Either a server side fix, or maybe the September 5.15.1 update, likely did it. It was an annoying one!
