Just started Dead Shot, book 3 in Wendy M Wilson's Sergeant Frank Hardy historical mystery series set in late C19 New Zealand. An expat NZer academic long resident in Canada, in this book she mentions Parihaka a lot, which is a part of that country's history I knew little of. Googling it makes it clear it's not exactly a high point for sure.

Another great non-western by Louis L'Amour is "Last of the Breed". L'Amour is a favorite of mine. I've read most of his books. My grandfather had all of his books in a nice leatherbound set and I read them all voraciously as a young'un.

Sounds like a great marketing tie-in opportunity for Rakuten Kobo to offer aptly-hued covers for one of their ereaders.

I have read all of his books multiple times and I agree Last of the Breed is a great read.

Lamour isn't out of copyright. He was writing at least through the 1990's if not later.

Considering that he died in 1988, I doubt he was writing new books in the 1990's or later.

I wonder if it is a similar situation to the Nancy Drew books, where a pen name is credited as the writer (and was required that the actual writer not to reveal that she was the actual writer) but now someone else is writing the books.

Something similar are the Robotech books. The listed author is "Jack McKinney" but it is a pen name for two science fiction writers who worked together on the series.

Returning to the topic, I've returned to the excellent miniseries The Blackest Night. One of the things the series explained is how come so many DC characters return from the dead. This includes Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), The Flash (Barry Allen), and Ice.

Loads of Marion Zimmer Bradley books came out after her death and Terry Pratchett had at least a few.

Louis L'Amour wrote all of his books himself. There weren't any ghost writers. Some of his short stories were released after his death in new collections. I think they are still doing this. He did write 4 Hopalong Cassidy novels but got mad when they forced him to rewrite them. After that refused to admit that he wrote them.

Yes, they still appear to be releasing uncollected stories from Louis L'Amour's estate from time to time. At least I see them every once in a while.
