Read The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik.

Very nicely done. Usually, the second book in a series is just a lead-up to a thrilling book three conclusion but The Last Graduate was exciting and tense - lots of growth. Like book one this ends on a firm cliff hanger. The next book (assuming it's a trilogy) doesn't appear until Sept 2022. In this case Patience isn't a good thing. Rated B+ [4 stars]

Next, my latest purchase, Liege-Killer by Christopher Hinz. The 2021 updated edition.

Just finished a short story in the Warhammer 40K universe franchise. Sometimes a short story really hits the spot.

Next, my latest purchase, Liege-Killer by Christopher Hinz. The 2021 updated edition.

I wondered about this book as Novik is hit or miss with me, but didn't know it was a series. I detest cliffhangers at the end of a book so I'll either wait for the series to finish or give it a miss. I just feel ripped off if I don't get a whole story.

Finally started Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence! I must be the last person on Earth.

Also still reading The Storyteller by Dave Grohl. Taking it slowly, 1 -2 chapters at a time.

3/4 done with Coffin Trail the first in Martin Edwards' Lake District series. So far it's right in my Goldilocks zone - not too cozy, not too bloody, and with interesting characters

Finished "The Book of the Ice" trilogy, rather enjoyed it. Interesting how he ties it into his Book of the Ancestor trilogy and then sets up another trilogy at the end.

Abandoned at 63%. I'm just not interested in the characters at all. I've given it a week and 63% through. I'm not going to spend another three or four days on this.

Just finished John Scalzi's "The Kaiju Preservation Society" which was recently released. This was a quick and entertaining standalone read. Fun banter between characters in an anything-but-normal environment.

If you like deep, heavy, dark books this may not be your ticket. But if you like fun banter between characters, you'll enjoy it. Framing it with movies as an example, if you prefer "Tremors" over "Schindler's List" (as I do), this is probably a book for you.

Amazon wants a ridiculous amount for the eBook ... $13.99! Get it from your library. All the ones in my area have it via Overdrive.

If Zane isn't up your alley, try Louis Lamour. He's the one author I enjoyed the most when trying out westerns.

Yeah, I found Zane Grey didn't stand the test of time. But the Louis Lamour books did a bit better.

Just now starting James Rollin's "The Sixth Extinction". After that, tentative plan is to re-read Patrick Lee's "Travis Chase series" (three books: The Breach, Ghost Country, and Deep Sky)

If you want a non western, Louis L'Amour try The Walking Drum. It is set in Europe and the Middle East in the 12th century.
