I acknowledge that measuring bare screens strictly alone, without any other factors, they may be equal. But I never read in those conditions either, there are always other factors. Sometimes it can depend on the screen. There can be variations even with the same screen model. Have you seen different Libra H2O vs different Oasis 3?

The PW5 has the same problem as the PW4 and because of this, the PW3 screen is still better. You forget that the PW5 has a newer Carta screen, with (supposedly) better contrast. This may negate any differences due to the top layer.

BTW, I've had an ereader with an IR screen - the Kindle Basic 2014. I was not impressed by the screen. It was neither particularly white nor particularly contrasty. So that's another myth that IR screens are always better than capacitive.

No, but I've not seen any posters saying their Libra H2O was better than their Oasis 3 (besides Howyoudoin, who compared them with the light off, and that's not what counts in my book). There have been more than one post saying the opposite, though. Which is not to say there may not exist a superb Libra H2O somewhere.

I find my caseless Libra 2 easier to hold than my Oasis with its metal back. But the Libra H2O was still easier and more comfortable to hold. In the ergonomical sense the Libra 2 is a step back. But yeah, the screen is superb.

Where the Oasis clearly wins is speed and the absence of any bugs. Still, I read exclusively on my Kobos now. The Oasis is sitting on the shelf.

The Kindle Basic 2014 used an old 800x600 screen. Sorry, but you cannot compare that to better higher resolution screens.

I'm not comparing it to the newer screens. I'm saying it didn't make an impression on me when I had it and that was before I had seen any newer screens. It just wasn't a particularly good screen in itself.

With the light off is how you are supposed to compare screens. So if the Libra H2O is better then the Oasis 3 with the light off, then that's how it is.

I can't compare the Libra 2 to the Libra H2O or Oasis 3 for how they compare when being held. I just know that I find no uneven weight issue with the Libra 2.

I read with the light off during the day and with the light on in bed at night. When I do read with the light on the Libra 2, it's set at 4. So the light won't make that much difference at my setting. With the light off is how the screen should be compared.

When reading outside, the light is off as there's sunlight instead. So most of the time I read with the light off.

You start the screen comparison with the light off. Then you can do a comparison with the light on. But the light off comparison is the one that matters most.

Again, it matters to YOU. It matters to ME not one whit, because I never use any of my ereaders with the light off. I never even look at any screen with the light off, not once.
