Can no longer Add Books

I had to reformat my PC and re-install the latest Kindle app and latest Calibre. Everything broke. Before the reformat I was using those same latest versions of the software. So nothing was different with the software itself, only something in the preferences must be different. I can not figure it out.

When I use the Add Books button, and try to add the .azw file, Calibre obviously cannot read the file. It imports a file, but there is no information associated with it. No title, no metadata, no cover, no nothing.

I only use Calibre for library management. I don't convert books. I don't use the reader. I simply want a catalog of all of the kindle books that I read.

I feel like I've been having this same issue, groundhog day style, since 2012. Can someone help?

TLDR: How do I add books so that Calbre doesn't add garbage?

Additional information: There is never any kind of error message.

I would suggest checking the following threads, the New version of DRM removal tools ("DeDRM"), the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre and very likely, the KFX Input thread.

Since you are not trying to convert or read the files, the simples answer would be to install the KFX Input plugin which should allow you to see the cover and metadata. with the format showing as KFX-ZIP.
