I wasn't an early adopter and I don't like buying something new when the current device still works, so my list is very short.

2013: Kindle paperwhite 1
late 2021: Kobo Libra 2

The Kindle was still working but only for a sufficiently loose definition of "working": an unfortunate firmware update made it sluggish and broke the collection management, so I sold it and switched to Kobo. Right now I don't see myself ever going back to a Kindle.

I've delved. I'm fascinated to discover that I've been reading ebooks on hand-held devices for 20 years now!

My first ereader was a Sony Clié SL 10, back at the start of 2002. It was great for the time - 320x320 greyscale pixels in a 'carry-anywhere' package.

I had several Cliés over the next few years - a greyscale TFT one, and even a colour one.

Then mobile phones finally got big enough screens to read on. I got a Nokia 7710 June 2005. A 640x320 LCD screen, although only 8cm x 4cm!

And then in 2007, E-Ink screens turned up, and a group at Baen's bar decided to try to source an E-Ink-based ebook reader, and eventually supplied a Bookeen CyBook Gen 3, which was my first E-Ink based ebook reader, in early 2008.

I got a Kindle 2 International version from Amazon USA in October 2009.

Since then I've have various incarnations of the 6" Kindle. My current one is the Kindle Voyage. I've felt no need to update so far.

2011: Sony PRS-350, which I loved
2013: Kobo Glo, only upgraded for the built in front light
2015: Kobo Glo HD, the better screen was worth the upgrade for me

So far nothing that has come out since then has even tempted me away from the Glo HD, it's my perfect reader.

My list is in my signature, and is starting to get too long, but my daily drivers have been:

Before eInk:
  • 1994: Original Newton OMP, copied books over Appletalk, I forget which software
  • 1996: Newton MP120 (still have it and want to sell it, PM me)
  • 1993: Palm 3, if I remember correctly I used the MobiPocket app, many ProjGut books, and if I remember correctly it had an automatic scrolling feature that I really loved. This was my favorite non-eInk reader, and I do miss it now and then.
  • 2000: Palm IIIc, added color, was a step backwards for my needs
  • 2002: iPAQ3850, didn't really like it that much

eInk:
  • 2010: Kindle 3 -- this was when I really fell in love with eReading. I read a lot on those prior devices, especially the Palm devices, but eInk changed the game altogether.
  • 2012: PW1, ordered it on announcement day even though the website was crashing and I had a horrible connection as I was at a national park. Overall I liked it, but in some ways it was a step backwards from the K3, especially outdoors in good lighting.
  • 2020: Kobo Clara HD, this is my current daily driver and I still love it. I upgraded primarily for the warm light, otherwise the PW1 would still be my daily driver.

I've also had some non-primary devices that I do use as eReaders, but only for colorful PDFs, PDFs that require a lot of scrolling around, or when I don't have my eInk based reader:
  • Kindle DX: bought on clearance near the end of their life -- ended up giving to our son for academic papers
  • 2010: Moto Droid: My first smartphone
  • iPad 2: My first tablet
  • iPad Pro 10 (current)
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone SE 2020 (current)

I don't really enjoy reading on LCD screens, so they don't get much long-form reading.

2010: Kindle 2 international - white - traded in
2013 (order placed March): Kindle Paperwhite 1st version - traded in
2013 (October): Kindle DXG - lost after house move - probably still in a box somewhere
2014 (March): Kindle Basic 4 with the side buttons (gray) - traded in
2014: Kindle Voyage, got this delivered on release day, in October 2014 - traded in
2016 (January): Kobo Aura One - sold on Mobileread
2017 (order placed October): Kindle Oasis 2017 with 3G
2018: Kindle Oasis 2017 Champagne because I love gold. I sold the previous one.
2019 (March): Refurb Kindle Basic 4 because I missed the form factor. I couldn’t live without the front light though, so I traded it in for:
2019 (April): Kindle Basic - white - because I love a white ereader. Still have as back up reader
2019 (Order placed June): "All-new” Kindle Oasis 2019 with warm lighting - champagne color. Still have as my main reader
2021: Kobo Libra H2O (sold earlier this year) Enjoyed having this as I love white ereaders and I love the text layout on kobos.
2022: Kobo Libra 2 (returned) - although I really loved it, I kind of realized I don’t need two premium ereaders, so I returned it.
ETA: 2022: Revived my other half's PW10 and really enjoying reading on this, enjoying the compact size and the 'normal' shape. Making a grand total of 15.

This does not include the multiple ereaders I have bought family members for presents.
(Kindle Keyboard, Paperwhite 2, Paperwhite 2019 then Paperwhite 2021 for my husband, Paperwhite 3s for my kids, Kindle Keyboard then Voyage for my mother).
I also tried a BOOX something or other at some point but the screen substrate was broken on arrival, Amazon gave me a full refund but it put me off trying them again.

It is clear to me on writing this down just how much of a problem I have with respect to purchasing of ereaders.

I am now back to using only my 2019 Oasis, and much the happier for it.
ETA: Now switching between a PW10, Oasis and Basic. Making full use of syncing.

Nah, there are several in this thread and other MR members who have not posted here.

Back then basic Kindles were the only readers I could afford. Sonys and some Kobo models were sold locally, but they were way out of my budget then. And Kobos had no page turn buttons before the Forma. So even though I often went to look at them in a store, I never bought one.

I didn't even know Nooks existed before joining MR.

Where I used to live, they used to have a small Sony Store (remember them?) and I used to go in and drool at the ereaders (particularly the pink/red one). That must have been back in 2008/2009. Never bought one because of the extortionate price, and the unknown quantity factor. Wish I had bought one now, looking back, as it seems they were excellent quality (as usual, with things Sony, at that time).

Sony has really changed over the years. I remember when Sony was synonymous with the best in electronics. Now to the average person they are a movie studio and make the Play Station.

I talked my boss into a Palm Pilot in 1999, for no good reason other than I secretly wanted to read ebooks. So I’ve been reading digitally for approximately 22 years.

I’ve lost track how many devices I’ve owned, but it must over 10. My first dedicated ereader was a Sony PRS 500, that I ordered from New York as soon as I was allowed to import it into Canada - probably late 2006.

I ordered my first Kindle as soon as Amazon US would sell ebooks to international customers in 2008. I’ve had every major remodelled kindle since. I got my first kobo around 2010, and finally replaced it with a Clara so I could borrow from the library.

I was very excited to order a first generation iPad from the States too, but ultimately didn’t enjoy reading on it.

I was introduced to e-ink through B&N as I worked there at the time. I then switched to Kindle because of the features (Send to Kindle, better software, etc.) I only started using Kobo this past year. My Libra is my main ereader now. I missed my Voyage after hearing everyone on MR raving about the screen, so I got a used one on Ebay. I also bought a Kindle Keyboard because I've always wanted one. I've got the games I used to have on my Kindle Touch on it. The Likebook Mars I plan to use for Hoopla ebooks.
