Replacing US firmware on a PW2 or 3
Hello everybody,
Thanks for letting me join this community. I am a great fan of ereaders, as I tend to read in different languages and I love the dictionnary features, especially of kindle. Another reason is that I can read in bed without troubling my wife's sleep ![]() I would be very grateful if you could help me with this issue. I inherited (litteraly) and old but working Kindle Paperwhite ref dp75sdi. Unfortunately it is apparently a US model and it will not accept to connect to wifi in Spain, at least that what Amazon support told me. As a result we cannot use the dictionnary, which is a pity. Would anyone know how to replace the firmware on the device to turn it into a European Kindle, so that we can make full use of it? It would be silly to get rid if it just for that, and I'd rather not crack it, I am concerned with security. Great many thanks in advance and happy holiday seasons. Valdo |

It should already have a Spanish dictionary.
Also, have you tied resetting it then setting it up as Spanish in Spain? I thought kindles use the same firmware everywhere, but you could try downloading the firmware from amazon's Spainish site. |

thanks J.P.S for the fast answer. Yes I had resetted it, to no avail. I am starting to wonder if the explanation of the support makes sense. How could theKindle refuse to connect to a wifi because of the region, if it cannot determine the region until it has an IP, ie it is connect to a wifi...
May it just be that it's wifi does not work??? |

If you are sure you are not in airplane mode and it can not see any access points then it is likely that its wifi does not work.

The Kindle supports the US wifi standard, meaning it only sees networks in the 1-11 channel range. If your network is broadcasting on the higher ones allowed in Europe (12-13) then this could be the problem here.
