I never know what to make of photos of screen lighting, but is the lighting uniformity of the Sage as good as the Oasis? Subjectively, it looks like it might be brighter along the sides with some patches in the center looking darker. I imagine the effect (if it exists) would decrease as screen brightness is increased.
Still split between a used Forma or a Sage. |

My Sage may be the exception to the rule, for all I know, but its screen is every bit the equal to the Oasis 3 that is my primary reader. It does sound like there is a lot of variation, so maybe I just got lucky.

Yes, and it also depends on where you look at them. When I look at my Sage in my usual reading environment, which is not brightly lit, but not dark either, plus the frontlight is at the lower end of the scale, they look about equal to me too. When I take them to a dark room and crank the frontlight up, they no longer look similar.

I had time to play with the Sage now. It connected to my laptop perfectly, with a USB-C/C cable I recently bought from Amazon. Loaded custom screensavers and fonts, patches, a couple of books. All worked just fine. I think I'm going with kepubs this time. They look better on the Sage than they did on the Libra, apparently thanks to the larger screen.
I'm quite satisfied with my Sage. It seems to be a little bit faster than the Libra 1 too. |

Interesting, my observation is the exact opposite. My Sage is far more uniform than my Oasis 3. I find the lighting options on the Sage preferable to the OA3 as well. Undoubtedly, observations will be as varied as the users.

I've seen some users complain about the lighting on their Oasis 3. It seems the Oasis itself varies as well. Mine is very uniform.

The contrast is really good, yes. I no longer have my Voyage, so can't compare. It had an uneven lighting too. In fact the only reader with a completely even lighting I've ever had is the Oasis 3. All others had blotches, gradients and whatnot, some more, some less. But while it's fun to whine about it here, in real life I'm not all that bothered about lighting issues. I'd never return an ereader because of them, unless the screen was absolutely horrible in any environment.

I'm definitely sensitive to lighting uniformity. I've started using a KA1 and while I absolutely love the larger screen, the lighting uniformity is a big step down from my Clara.
I'd be curious to know how many new Sage owners who have never used an 8 inch device would consider going back to smaller readers. I know that I won't, which kinda sucks because I really like the new Paperwhite. |

I might go back to a 7'' screen, but not to a 6''.

How orange is the sage light? Is it paler than the Libra?

I'm surprised because I think we share similar habits when it comes to our usage of e-readers. Since I read almost exclusively at home, there's no portability advantage of using a smaller device.
I actually wish that I could go back to a 7 inch screen because I think it's harder to get a consistently good 8 inch screen and they're more expensive. For me, the improvement from a 7 to 8 inch screen is the same as the degree of to which I prefer the 7 to 6 inch. It's funny because I don't think I'd want a 9 inch screen at all. I thought I'd prefer an 8 inch screen prior to using one, but it turns out I underestimated how much I'd prefer it. |
