Heh. Yeah.

Although, I did have to let the system download and install 280 updates before I was able to get Gnome to stabilize. At least, I think it has stabilized now. (Interesting. FF wants me to spell it "stabilise." I have nothing against British spelling, but it's not what I usually use for my work or studies, so I suppose I should find this parameter and change it....)

Still working out a few bits and pieces, anyway, but I'm much happier now. I really can't be spending half my time trying to figure out which bit of malware-du-jour I've got this time. Since the department balked at getting me a Mac laptop, this'll do. (There are a small number of applications I'm not confident will run under Ubuntu, but I do have a spare PC at work if I absolutely need to run one of them, and a desktop Mac at home.)

Grr. I lost my mobile phone at some point while I was out and about on Friday. I've checked the grocery store and the restaurant, and they hadn't seen it. The post office and bank are closed on weekends, so will have to check them tomorrow. I hope I find it and that I don't have to get a new one. I'd had this one for 3.5 years and it was still working just fine.
