When I lived in Houston there was a Sci Fi/Fantasy bookstore that I loved. They are probably gone now since it was 30 years ago. I think it was right off 610 and was well south of me, I lived off FM1960, but it was worth the drive.

I live in a small town with a Books A Million. It seems to be more toy store than book store now.

That's how the B&N's are around here (some with CD's & Movies, some without) although there are none actually in the town I live in, closest BAM to me is 90 miles away . We do have a couple of popular genre indies somewhat nearby in Once Upon A Crime and Uncle Hugo's/Uncle Edgar's and some good "regular" indies too.

Yeah, same here in the suburbs of Detroit. B&N is pretty much it for new books. I can only think of one used book store which is oddly enough in the former location of a Borders.

I hear about B&N (and I guess BAM) giving more and more retail space to toys and games. It's true of my local Barnes and Noble as well. But even so, the store has more books than the former mall bookstores I shopped at when I was younger.

username will be some version of the user name shown when you log in to windows.

In Windows Explorer, you have to make sure in View, Show/Hide that Hidden items is checked. Otherwise the AppData folder will be hidden.
I followed your steps, installing the Nook app from the Microsoft store on my SurfaceBook, using the above file path and adding to Calibre, and it worked perfectly! Thank you!

How many books did you try? It looks like some people are saying certain books work with this method, others don't.

To be safe, after importing a book from B&N to Calibre, immediately try opening it in Calibre. It's worked for me, but as hollowpoint mentioned, some folks have issues.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, Calibre gives you no feedback on DRM status until you actually try opening the book.

I agree, opening the book in Calibre tells you whether it worked or not. I have a single book that won't download, but this same book crashes when I download. I think it is never completely downloading. It's a freebee, so I'm not crushed over it, but that could be the problem others are having with novels. In my case, it says ERRROR xxxx rather than the infamous DRM lock screen.

I bought two books and it worked with both. I was able to open them, do some reformatting to my preferences, and then convert them to add metadata to the front.

the only book I ever had a problem with was a graphic novel. The other ones I've seen have been cookbooks. Maybe regular ePubs work fine and books with lots of images don't?

My graphic novel, I just needed to move a file from one folder to another in the ePub. It was easy, though I don't remember the details now.

^Can you speculate on reasons why you and kazbates succeeded with some books, versus why there are many others here and on the tools github site saying that they are having issues importing new books from the Nook app into Calibre? To be clear, I'm not asking about any how-to details of DRM, as a new user I read the site rules here and I know that's off-limits. And I'm familiar with using the tools myself, and having no issues. But I'm not a BN customer and curious why people are having so many problems freeing their books.

I thought I just did?

That is to say I wonder if large, image filled books are packed differently than your bog standard fiction book?

That speculation is based on the fact that moving an internal file in the graphic novel ePub (using 7-zip to open the ePub as an archive) solved the problem. I suspect it would solve others problems too.

We'd have to find someone that has the problem with a novel, have them check to see if the file was in the right place for the plug-in to check and go from there. If the file is in the right place and it still fails, then something else is the matter.

^Thanks. I should have said "elaborate" before, but yeah that's what I was after.

Seems like more coordination amongst those having the issue would be a good thing. Although I realize that coordination would have to be elsewhere, like the tools repo Issues page.

This may or may not have anything to do with this but I found out recently in working with Amazon files (book downloaded to PC Kindle) that if it had Unlimited licenses I could Calibre convert the file but if it had restricted number of licenses I could not. Just an area to check out.

Did you check to see if the Unlimited License ebooks were also not DRMmed?
