Create collection from Calibre does not work

Good time of the day to all.

I am facing this issue, that I need help.
I have a kindle Paperwhite, the model from 2013
(Latest Firmware version 5.6.1, if it is important)

I connected it to PC, and ran Calibre to "Edit collection Manually".
Then I imported created collections to Calibre. (Using custom field name)

I cleared the Kinldle device, making it completely empty.
However, when I add book to it, i don't see collections. And the book is not seen as added to any collection, even though in metadata i specified that Collection name as custom field

Please help !! Is it because Kindle is old ?? Or what ?

You can only create collections on all but oldest Kindles, on the device. Some can be jailbroken.
Also now Amazon syncs collections to your Kindle Library, and this is sort of broken, especially if you have more than one Kindle.
Finally, you can't create collections at all, unless the Kindle is registered and not blocked.

It's because the Kindle isn't prehistoric that Creating Collections in Calibre doesn't work.

I want to clarify that you actually *can* create collections on newer Kindles, you just can't create them using Calibre. You create them either on the device or on the "Content and Devices" page in your Amazon account.

Contrary to Quoth's experience, syncing the collections to multiple Kindles is not broken for me--if I add a book to a collection on my Oasis, it shows up in that collection on my Voyage as soon as I sync. It's true that the cloud collections don't work with books sideloaded over USB, but if you send your books to the Kindle cloud, it works just fine. Of course, cloud collections also work very well with books purchased from Amazon.

I really wish I could sync on the kindle app on computer since it's easier on there, and then it would sync to the devices. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case.

Thank you, shalym
Both of these statements are true for me.
I use Kindles since 2011 and do use collections on device itself, and with Amazon Cloud.

Over the past few month, I created and organized my Library with Calibre, and am really enjoying the experience. Synching collections with it would have been a tremendous boost.

I suspect because it's three distinct generations of firmware, the most recent available on a DXG, KK3 and PW3.
Also many collections have no Amazon bought books.

NONE of my physical Kindle ebooks are Cloud loaded, because that illegally adds DRM to DRM free titles and also means that they can't be backed up. ALL are downloaded to PC first.

Amazon is assuming:
1) You ONLY use their Cloud.
2) You ONLY buy their books.
3) You ultimately manage your library on your web site.

I manage my library with Calibre and I backup. Vendors clouds can't be trusted.

So, Collections USED to work sensibly on Kindles and work without the Cloud and for ANY eBooks. Now they don't. It's broken.

Well, there are a couple of reasons why cloud collections don't work well for you.

1. You don't use their cloud.
2. 2 of your devices are not capable of using cloud collections.

Since you don't use their cloud and don't seem to trust them at all, I'm curious as to why you would ever turn on the wifi on any of your devices in the first place?

I did try it.
It's not a matter of trust.
Actually all three models affect the Website library in both directions. And a Sync WILL create collections on the DXG.

That's very odd, since syncing my K3 doesn't create any collections, and I have 83 of them in the cloud. Unfortunately I don't have a DXG to look at, but you would think that since the DXG software is older than the K3 software that cloud collections wouldn't work on that, either, any more than they work on the K3.

Is the K3 registered? If not, you cannot create collections.

The K3 is registered, and I can create collections on the device, but they don't sync with the cloud. As far as I know, the K3 firmware doesn't allow cloud collections.
