Correction, the invert screen option in devmode doesn't solve the problem. It just lasts for a few minutes. I try to find more information online but there is barely nothing.

Can someone invert screen effectively on aura HD?

Have you tried the patch from this thread? Judging by the reviews in it, works for Aura HD. Which is of course strange.

"Can someone invert screen effectively on aura HD?"

Don't use Nickel Menu for this, and don't use DevModeOn. Instead, use this:

All best wishes.

Hi everyone,

I've read through the thread and I am completely baffled. I found the right folder to install the root file but when I paste it in and restart, it's as if i haven't installed anything at all. I've tried multiple times and I'm using a kobo Libra h20 and am on version 4.25 of the firmware. I've downloaded both the latest version of the installer and one of the older versions and have had no luck with either. Any ideas as to how I can see the menu?

Until you create a configuration file I don't think you will see the menu.

You would still see the NickelMenu button, though.

Install again with the one-click packages; if it doesn't work, do a reset.

Just wanted to say thanks for NickelMenu! I have had my Kobo for a long time but didn't try it until today. My needs were pretty simple (some custom web searches based on selected text) but it works great and was really easy to set up.

I did wonder if I needed to create a configuration file first but the instructions made it seem as if I needed to see the menu button first.

Ah, it is as I thought then! So, I download the Kobo root file (.tgz), extract it (I wonder if maybe that's where I'm going wrong but then how will any files be read if I don't) and copy the extracted file. I then right click on my kobo main device drive and look for my .kobo folder and paste the extracted file into the .kobo folder. Then I eject my kobo and let it reboot and then... nothing changes. When it hasn't worked, I've gone into the .kobo folder and put the KoboRoot folder into trash and tried it again.

When you say one-click packages, is that different to the KoboRoot.tgz folder or is it the same thing?

Thank you all for your guidance, really appreciate it!

Update (sorry, don't know how to edit posts on here): I reset my kobo, found the one-click package and gah, I *still* can't install it. If I understand the instructions, it's saying extract the file into the main kobo folder that comes up when you plug it in but when I try to extract the file to there, I get a message about there being an "error identifying a writable folder. Try moving the archive to another volume". When I try to copy and paste in and then move the script to that folder, it says there aren't any packages to install. I'm so frustrated, I've never had a problem when I was jailbreaking my kindle and that had more files to play with than this. I'm determined to get this working.

The koboroot.tgz file will be extracted and installed by your Kobo. Just copy it into the .kobo directory and safely eject. It uses the same mechanism used to install new firmware. After the install and reboot, the koboroot.tgz file will have been automatically removed.

See the One-Click Install Packages for KOReader & Plato thread for information on using the one click install packages. Check the 2nd message in the thread for the scripted install.

Hi David, thank you! I got it working and Nicklemenu and KOreader is installed. I couldn't get Plato to install correctly so deleted it. Thanks again

Maybe I should pack the KoboRoot inside the KoboRoot, or at least put a message in it, since so may people make this mistake.

I mainly use selection-based stuff in NickelMenu, e.g., custom searches for the words I have selected. I was wondering if there was a way to access other variables/parameters, such as the title of the current book?

EDIT: Follow-up question, is there a way to create another sub-menu for selected text, or is selection_search the only option?

Could someone kindly do me a massive favour and look over my syntax? I'm trying to get the kobo to give me an option to recognise my USB and add a few menu options and I keep getting config errors and can't quite see what I've done wrong. I borrowed the formatting from someone who posted their sample config file earlier in the thread (apologies for not remembering your name!). I'm using Text Edit on a Mac if that makes any difference. Thank you, I'm so excited to get it working because it looks like a great tool.

menu_item :main :USB Connection :nickle_misc : force_usb_connection
menu_item :main :My Articles :nickel_open: libraryocket
menu_item :main :My Words :nickel_open: reading_life: words
menu_item :main :Overdrive :nickel_open: store: overdrive
menu_item :main :Screenshots :nickel_setting :toggle :screenshots

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

menu_item :reader :My Articles :nickel_open: library: pocket
menu_item :reader :My Shelves :nickel_open: library: shelves
menu_item :reader :Overdrive :nickel_open: library: overdrive
menu_item :reader :My Words :nickel_open: reading_life: words

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
menu_item :library :My Stats :nickel_open : reading_life:stats
menu_item :library :My Articles :nickel_open: libraryocket

Edit: Lol, of course right after posting I caught the typo in the first line.
Edit again: I fixed it! Added spaces after the colons! This is so cool, thank you!
