I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you are dealing with eBooks, Windows is the best OS and this is not disputable since OS X has gone 64-bit only.

but: I have a dual boot Windows/Linux since many Years and I have never had any problem. And when I don't use my PC it is off.But the situation of the OP is different: so if he only wants to read these books He can try if it exist a Android app that handle ACSM or install the Kindle app. If He wants also to import the books in calibre he needs a way to get rid of DRM: or Wine and ADE or a old kindle eink (not a Fire) for a lesser price as possible to register. Before we give any more suggestions, we need the OP to come back and say what it is he actually wants based on our suggestions.

I've been using various Windows since 1991, training, installing, networks etc for years as the day job. Using UNIX since 1988, Linux since 1998. Changed over completely to Linux in 2016. Also used to do Windows programming till 2007 when I switched to cross platform programming. |

If you're using android , phone or tablet, install an app that supports RMDSK (like blue fire), and you may be able to get to the appropriate files? Please note that I have no personal experience with my dev/android suggestions. I would be interested to see if anyone got it to work. Last edited by John F; 12-14-2020 at 01:39 PM. |

Windows 10 still supports 32-bit programs meaning you can run ADE 2.0.1 without the fiddling with Wine. OS X needs a 64-bit programs and that means a later version of ADE with the new DRM. You can install all the programs easily that you need to download and remove the DRM from ePub and KF8/Mobi eBooks. It's actually very easy. It easiest to do this with Windows 10. Anyway, unless you can prove these things on any of my computers, then I'm going to poo-poo them as they don't happen here. |

I don't own a Kindle, and I can buy ebooks from Amazon. (I then download them to my PC, open them with Kindle for PC, then open them in Calibre to remove DRM and convert them to epub. I have a Windows PC, and from what I've read there isn't a Linux version of Kindle for PC, so my process wouldn't work for the OP.) To be clear, I don't doubt you, I'd just like to understand why and how owning a physical Kindle helps. |

Here is how to install ADE 2.0.1 under Linux.

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/ADE_2.0.1_Linux This way you won't have to buy a Kindle since you have a good tablet. |

Less compatible with what? We are currently using several business programs that are not compatible with Windows 7 and some that required updates to work with Windows 10. But then when we went to Windows 7, we had to have a good chunk of our custom and purchased programs updated to work with Windows 7. There is hardware that we said goodbye to, especially some of our older printers as we moved to a 64 bit environment but most of our hardware still works. As for being least configurable? I have no issues with configuring Windows 10 to work the way I want it to work for the end users. Group Policy has an enriched selection over Windows 7 making it easier for IT to manage them. |

I use ADE 2.0 and it recently stopped opening ACSM files (some message about 'bad device key' etc). To get around that, I open the ACSM file with the Bluefire app on my iPad, I email the ePub to myself, and I then open it in Calibre. Convoluted but it works.

Another route is to go with Kobo. I'm pretty sure you can download a Kobo app and read books purchased from Kobo on your tablet. Not sure if there's a Kobo "de-drm" for Calibre that works in Linux or not. https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/master-of-war-4# |
