Another holiday-themed (or at least winter/snow-themed) title...

Snow Place to Die is the thirteenth in the Bed-and-Breakfast series by Mary Daheim. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OI0EWC

There's snow place like homicide

B&B hostess Judith McMonigle Flynn's ready to hang up her oven mitts, but irrepressible Cousin Renie needs help catering the telephone company's annual winter retreat at secluded Mountain Goat Lodge. The pay's good, the scenery's to die for -- but they never figured there'd be a killer cooking up mischief among this innocuous stew of corporate-climbing phone company ding-a-lings. Unfortunately, Judith and Renie's discovery of the frozen garroted remains of the previous company caterer -- missing since last year's shindig -- suggests no less, since the same cast of characters is present this time around. It's Dial "M" for Mountain Goat Murder, and a storm's blowing in to boot -- leaving Judith and Renie stranded with ten suspects and a corpses...and with nothing better to do than to reach out and touch a killer who's like nothing better than to put two inquisitive cousins in the Deep Freeze.

And yet one more for the holidays, in the UK...

The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories by P. D. James is on sale for £0.99 as part of today's Daily Deal.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HP2F2B2
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HP2F2B2

Spoiler:
Quote:
As the acknowledged 'Queen of Crime' P.D. James was frequently commissioned by newspapers and magazines to write a special short story for Christmas. Four of the very best of these have been rescued from the archives and are published together for the first time. P.D. James's sparkling prose illuminates each of these perfectly formed stories, making them ideal reading for the darkest days of the year. While she delights in the secrets that lurk beneath the surface at enforced family gatherings, her Christmas stories also provide enjoyable puzzles to keep the reader guessing.

From the title story about a strained country house gathering on Christmas Eve, another about an illicit affair that ends in murder, and two cases for James's poet-detective Adam Dalgliesh -- each treats the reader to James's masterfully atmospheric story-telling, always with the lure of a mystery to be solved.

Smiley's People by John le Carré seems to drop to £0.99 at Kindle UK every year or 18 months or so, and it is again on sale today, as part of today's Daily Deal. Please note there appear to have been a couple of editions of this floating around in the past, so check carefully before you buy...

Dead and Gone is the ninth in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I don't tend to be super-fond of paranormal mysteries, but this series is quite popular, and I don't see titles go on sale (in the US, at least) all that often. So I'd grab it if you want it...

The werewolves and shifters come out of the closet and throw the small town of Bon Temps into a tailspin in the ninth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series—the inspiration for the HBO® original series True Blood.

Except for cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, knew little about vamps—and nothing about Weres. Until now. The Weres and shifters have finally revealed their existence to the ordinary world, and the backlash may have claimed the life of someone Sookie knew. But her determination to find out who is responsible for the murder is put aside in the face of a far greater danger. A race of unhuman beings—older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves—is preparing for war. And Sookie will find herself an all-too-human pawn in their battle...

Finnegan's Week is a non-series title by Joseph Wambaugh that used to drop in price pretty regularly, sometimes to some pretty nice prices, but in the last couple of years, not so much. Still, if you didn't catch it at $0.63 a few years back, it's now on sale at $1.99 at Kindle US, which is not such a terrible price .

Link below is still good, or if you prefer Smile, here's that link:

A toxic spill causes a lethal chain reaction for a San Diego cop in this “very funny” New York Times bestseller by the author of The Choirboys (Kirkus Reviews).

Fin Finnegan, a San Diego police detective and wannabe actor heading straight for a midlife meltdown, is assigned a routine truck theft that turns into a toxic chemical spill, setting off a bizarre chain reaction of death and murder on both sides of the Mexican border. Fin is forced to team up with Nell Salter, a sexy female investigator, as well as an equally fetching US Navy investigator who wants to learn all that Fin can teach her—and that’s saying a lot. The New York Times Book Review called it “a frolic, a joy, a hoot, a riot of a book.” And Entertainment Weekly said, “superbly crafted and paced, deliciously funny, but fundamentally, as always, deadly serious.”

Agent Running in the Field by John le Carré is on sale for $2.99.

Quote:
Nat, a 47 year-old veteran of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, believes his years as an agent runner are over. He is back in London with his wife, the long-suffering Prue. But with the growing threat from Moscow Centre, the office has one more job for him. Nat is to take over The Haven, a defunct substation of London General with a rag-tag band of spies. The only bright light on the team is young Florence, who has her eye on Russia Department and a Ukrainian oligarch with a finger in the Russia pie.

Nat is not only a spy, he is a passionate badminton player. His regular Monday evening opponent is half his age: the introspective and solitary Ed. Ed hates Brexit, hates Trump and hates his job at some soulless media agency. And it is Ed, of all unlikely people, who will take Prue, Florence and Nat himself down the path of political anger that will ensnare them all. Agent Running in the Field is a chilling portrait of our time, now heartbreaking, now darkly humorous, told to us with unflagging tension by the greatest chronicler of our age.

Somewhat unusually, there are a number of mystery titles in today's US Kindle Daily Deal, some matched at Kobo US. Some are a little more thrillerish than normally to my taste, and others are $2.99 rather than my preferred $1.99 or $0.99, but WTH...

You are correct. It turns out to be a stand alone title by the same author. I will fix that in my posting.
