I always eject if I remember, but every now and then it gets yanked or I thought I ejected and don't realize until I unplug and get the "you forgot to eject" warning. Usually it's not a big deal, but I do occasionally see file system damage remnants afterwards, and about 1 time in 5 the database gets corrupted and I have to restore it from the calibre extended driver automatic backup or log out and log back in and start over fresh.
Rebuilding the database from scratch isn't too big a deal except I've got half my library on my kobo and it takes about a half hour to scan and rebuild the database. I'd much rather restore it if I can just to avoid the delay. It is annoying either way though if I forgot to back up my reading positions. I'd do that automatically but it takes too long, so I do it manually when I know there are big changes. |

I agree. Ejecting or "unmounting" (depending on the device) just seems natural. In Linux the device is part of the file system when mounted. Ejecting or unmounting is the "clean" way to change this. It keeps the logic and hardware syncronized.

I don't get it either but perhaps the message only appears for older devices. Windows can be smart. I was going to try it with my superannuated Kindle Touch but its battery is dead so now it's charging.

I was in the middle of extracting a KoboRoot and, due to USB port problems, it disconnected. I didn't get any notifications....
