KV Kindle Voyage 5.13.1 Serial Jailbreak Help

Hi, New member here so be gentle.
Quite some experience with arduinos, uart serial and Linux/Windows.

Brought a used Kindle Voyage from ebay which came with 5.13.1, sucks right

Seems I can't get the uboot 'Hit any key to stop autoboot: 1 ' message all the serial jailbreak threads I read seem to show.
Yes I've tried mashing a key at on battery connect.

While my soldering job couldn't have gone worse, I'm still able to TX/RX because I am able to read the kernel boot log as well and write into the fully-booted login prompt (in which the python root password generator doesn't work).
I'm just hoping amazon didn't find a way to patch uboot or maybe I might have overlooked something.

Also Tried: different uart rates, Both my FTDI F232RL and CH340 operating at 3.3v with a 1.8v logic level shifter, powering on via USB and power button

On the off-chance it might help, because I'm still flabbergasted by everyone apparently still using a potentially horribly outdated piece of code for such a key (ha!) step: use kindletool info for the passwords.

Will try!, Noticed how old it actually is when I was lost for words as why python didn't work, its because I wasn't using python2
However I am no where close to even getting into diagnostic boot, and the password given by 'kindletool info' is the same as the python script, which doesn't work in a fully booted prompt

Nevermind, might be uboot had SerialOUT disabled but it's still listening, spammed control-c and kindle didnt boot, tried blind typing without an echo back ' bootm 0xE41000 ' and it booted to diag mode
will be back with more issues if it goes south
