Kepub Feature: Kepub supports font fallback, (It will display characters that are not in your selected font by automatically falling back to a different font. Important for books that include foreign characters.) Epub Feature: Can correctly calculate real physical distance, so will properly display books with margins and indents defined with measures, (inches or pt). |

Both Epub and Kepub will indent something that looks like 1 inch on the Low DPI device. On the High DPI device, the epub will still indent about 1 inch, but the Kepub indent will look like half that. It's been my guess that the distance to pixels is hard coded in the Kepub renderer, and was calculated back when readers for 168DPI (or whatever the DPI was back then.) |

Well I loaded some manga onto the readers.
cbz looks great, full size images, in proportion, etc. But no zoom except "fit to width".. kepub/epub looks terrible. Images squashed and stretched, default setting inserts headers and footers (unless you turn this off). You can zoom which is good, but images are not proportional... Sigh. |

You can Pinch zoom. The Four Directions icon, (you probably touched this one to see the "fit to width" had a slider that acts as a zoom And finally, you can double tap on an image to zoom into the area you double tapped on. (use the zoom slider or double tap again to zoom back out.) I would, however, suggest *not* using the zoom to width or zoom to height icons. They will cause the display to completely mess up if images between pages are not the same size, and it can be hard to restore without closing/re-opening the book. |

Maybe because Mini only runs an older firmware? |

For the times that I need to put an image in the a book, I either do it as with an SVG wrapper with 'preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet"', or an img tag with either the width or height set to auto. |

I'm not using the latest version of KCC, because my Mac is not on the latest OS X.....I converted a KCC-optimised cbz (which displays perfectly on the reader) to kepub using Calibre. Maybe that's where the issue came in.

Right, you said right in your first post that you were taergetting older devices, and I completely overlooked it. Sorry. Everything I chimed in so far can be disregarded,, it's been a long time since I worked with these, and I'll just get my memories jumbled trying.
As for loading manga on a mini... ![]() Image loading in non-book formats, (cbz) used to be terrible in older kobo firmware, slow and poor quality dithering. it was improved immensely in more recent firmware, but I forget if it was late in the 3.x series or the 4.x series. The images did look nice but the text was.....on the small side. A Touch will probably be better for Manga reading. I shall try and update firmware to (not officially supported) recent version and see if it helps at all. (Will do backup of existing system first). |

I think you may want update the firmware if it's running an older version. It can run 4.23.15548. It's compatible with the Mini.
https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html (download kobo4 firmware and manually update) Last edited by JSWolf; 08-25-2020 at 11:30 AM. |

Tested the manga cbzs on my Aura and they're great: zoom no problem, fast page turns. I will check on the Mini too with latest firmware, maybe a bit small but hopefully will all function fine.

Just a quick update or sitrep if you like.
Glo, plus two Touch devices loaded with books and manga. I ditched the Mini due to battery requiring replacement, also small screen size inadequate for manga despite zoom function in latest firmware (which is great, and very good the Mini can run it). I used the plugin KoboTouchExtended (suggested by davidfor upthread) to load books from Calibre, and just dragged and dropped cbz files onto the device after optimising and processing with KCC. I can report that family are pleased with their Kobo readers and all happily reading away. ![]() |
