apart from the page number not constantly on the screen, and not being able to type in/go directly to a certain page, i really like everything else about this latest firmware release. i especially like the bottom bar showing, home, my books, discover, more.

i think someone else said now that my books is on the bottom bar, perhaps the space it occupies on the bottom left of the home screen could be used for something else in a future release.

Is anyone else having syncing problems since this release?

If I'm lucky enough to get past "Starting sync", I can't get any farther than "Checking for updates" now.

Syncing works just fine after a factory reset, but the second I connect it to Calibre and add the rest of my books to my reader, it never syncs again. It'll be dead in the morning from trying sync all night if I don't leave it plugged in. I've reset it 3 times now this week, so I know it has to have something to do with Calibre. I've also tried using the Kobo desktop software to sync, but I have the issue same as when trying over wifi

No issues here on my H2O V2, I've bought more books than usual recently, so have have synched more often, all fine.

I have only done a sync once in almost 6 years.

No troubles with syncing here. The only time I had trouble like that, it was because I had been logged out of Overdrive. So apparently Kobo just kept trying to sync my library account but didn't have access.

So, you do a factory reset and the device sets up OK and downloads the update and syncs any books. But, after sideloading books using calibre, it stops being able to sync.

I'm sure when the Kobo desktop is used to try syncing. Is it failing after using calibre, or does it fail no matter what?

The questions that come to mind:

• Are you using an older version of KSM? There was an issue with this an connections to the PC.
• What happens if you don't use calibre to sideload the books? Can you connect and manually add a book without causing any problems?
• Do the sideloaded books get imported properly?
• Do you lose books or reading status if you restart the device?
• Do you get any errors from calibre when you connect a second time?
• Are you patching or installing anything else?
• What version of calibre are you running? It shouldn't matter, but, it is always a good idea to check.
• How much free space is on the device?

I can state that I am not seeing any issues with my devices. I think they have all had a new book put on them using calibre, and have all synced with no issues.

I prefer to download ePub to put in my Calibre library. That way I have it without DRM and I can do what I want with it.

Yes, that is absolutely correct.

I actually very very rarely use the Kobo desktop app, but since it wasn't syncing over wifi, I thought I'd try it that way. It sure didn't help.

Yes, once I've used my reader with Calibre, Kobo syncing fails.

1. Sorry, I don't know what KSM is. I have the latest version of software on both my Kobo and Calibre.
2. Using Calibre is the only way I know how to load other books that aren't directly from Kobo onto my reader, so I have no idea

In summary, all software used is up to date, sycing to Kobo works great until I sync to Calibre, then it stops being able to sync to Kobo. The ereader never has an issue with Calibre (other than of course once I add books from Calibre, I can no longer sync to Kobo).

I can also tell you that as of right now, it has been syncing since about an hour or so before I wrote my original message and is still no further than "Checking for updates".

I've been having similar problems with all of my Kobo ereaders for... the last couple of years, at the very least ? I have no problem setting up the reader via WiFi once I buy/reset it and downloading books from my account (most recently with my Libra H2O when I bought it almost one year ago), but after I set up everything else through Calibre syncing via the reader hangs, and I'm forced to use the Kobo Desktop app. I don't use KSM, always update Calibre to the latest version, have no issues otherwise with error messages, importing, losing stats etc. and free space varies from 1GB ca. (my Libra) to 8+ (Glo HD, I changed the internal microSD card). I do patch but the issue presents itself regardless.

I used to ask in the firmware threads if any other people had this issue but it seemed to be only me and I eventually resigned myself to using Kobo Desktop. I don't sync often so it's not a huge issue, to be fair...

No, you're not alone. My kobo has done this forever as well. I just make sure wifi is turned off when I'm not actively doing a sync.

Occasionally a full sync will succeed for me, but more often than not, it keeps going until the battery dies or I abort it by turning off wifi. Even more irritating, if it starts a sync that gets stuck, I can't sync pocket until it aborts.

I just tried synching after sideloading from Calibre, no issues on my H2O2. I tried a couple of times, first sideloading, ejecting, synching then reconnecting and running Kobo Utilities plugin's "update metadata" tool, ejecting and synching. Again, no issues. It's never blindingly fast but after a minute or three, all done with no issues.
