Why Kobo add spaces between letters of first word?

Why Kobo add spaces between letters of first word?

I have KoboAuraOne and while reading KePub file I noticed that Kobo, sometime, add spaces between letters, of the first word in a line. Example will be on book in my language, so please forgive if you don't understand text. But visually it will be clear. In the background is Sigil with opened "problematic" ePub. Problematic word is: Фиренца. In Sigil (ePub) there are no spaces. Problematic line in KePub file also don't have spaces, and code look like this: <p class="normalweb1"><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.109.1">„Фиренца. </span><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.109.2">Банкарски кланови су његови доброчинитељи. </span>... But on Kobo, opened KePub file, there are spaces (like on picture above). This is not the only word. It happens on every second page. Is it problem with how Kobo "read" KePub and is there are any solution? I copied original ePub on KoboAuraOne, and it doesn't have problem with spaces between letters (same settings, except ePub does not support adding weight on added fonts): ![]() <a href="https://ibb.co/yR9yQ08"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/yR9yQ08/problem-blanko-znaka-e-Pub.jpg" alt="problem-blanko-znaka-e-Pub" border="0"></a> Kindle Voyage don't have this problem, no matter the font or size. Did You enable the text-rendering: optimizeLegibility (ligatures) in the patch KePub stylesheet additions?

Because this is a condition that causes the issue, as specified in the commented lines of the patch. And if You want to add weight on custom fonts (using of course the patch) in Epub You must use ttf fonts, not otf fonts, while with Kepub You can add weight also to otf fonts |

 Do I need to disable whole section (KePub stylesheet additions) or just change: # - FindReplaceString: {Find: "/******************************************/", Replace: "body{text-rendering ptimizeLegibility }", MustMatchLength: yes}into: - FindReplaceString: {Find: "/******************************************/", Replace: "body{text-rendering ptimizeLegibility }", MustMatchLength: no}Thanks for answer |

It's because Kobo is attempting to justify the text and not doing a good job if it.

I don't know it is in your language (Russian?), but in English Kobo has bad hyphenation settings. When justifying text it will not split words lie it should so you wind up with weord spacing sometimes. |

I really don't like how ePub displays endnote. I want a balloon with endnote text (like on Kindle), and not to go to the end of the book, where endnote section is.

I just checked all setting in patch, and I enabled "Set KePub hyphenation". But hyphenation is not enabled in KePub file. |

Reading books with images is another reason to prefer kepubs, by the way, as is wanting to see the stats, or wanting to download books directly from Overdrive. Not everyone has the same needs/wants/desires that you do. Shari |

No, it is exactly that. Since Kobo is attempting to justify the text and hyphenation is turned off, it has to insert spaces in sentences and sometimes words to keep the text justified.

Try installing the better hyphenation dictionary here. It should help a lot. All of my experience has been in English. Not sure if they apply to displaying your language. |

I just want to say, I like your username. I love the film Roshomon. I have the original book of short stories, but haven't read it yet.
