convert kindle to epub, then no TOC
By TOC what I mean is the pop up table of contents you get when you click on its icon at the bottom left of the screen on the Kobo. I don't know where that comes from, I'm guessing it's the toc.ncx file.
Is there some setting I need to use so that I always get that TOC when I use calibre to convert from a mobi or azw3 file to epub? |

Without seeing the code, there's no way to know why there was no proper ToC generated. Post an example of the Chapter header and the CSS that goes with it. Is this eBook a single HTML file? Is it multiple HTML files? Is the code a mess? Last edited by JSWolf; 07-08-2020 at 03:16 PM. |

You may want to check the Table of Contents segment of the calibre on-line manual which also discusses manually editing the table of contents which comes in handy where calibre is unable to create an usuable ToC. There are time when the Mark One eyeball is the only tool for the job. |

If that is the case and if the eBook may be one HTML file, did the chapters split properly?

It's unfortunate that calibre doesn't also produce the toc.ncx file when the output is set to epub 3. In sigil I always generate one just before the final epubcheck. Last edited by hobnail; 07-08-2020 at 04:47 PM. |

We do have to remember that for an epub3, the toc.ncx is allowed for compatibility with older reader code and is not required. |

I think Calibre needs an option to allow NCX or not with ePub 3.
But the thing is, what does a conversion from KF8 bring when converted to ePub 3 instead of ePub 2? I've converted many an ePub 3 to ePub 2 and lost nothing. |
