Post Auto-convert ...books before uploading [wrong format]
I searched and couldn't find my answer. Sorry if it's already here. I'm at this a while and suspect I'm missing something pretty obvious.
Most books I have are in .epub, and I have set the behavior to convert to .azw3 as I prefer the extra format options available in Paperwhite.

Convert books button works fine to .azw3, however, if I just have an .epub and select > send to device, I'm prompted with "auto-convert the following books before uploading..." If I select okay, the book converts to .mobi and sends to the Paperwhite.

Obviously that's not what I want. I can't do it in two steps, but I suspect as I mentioned that I'm clearly missing something about this process. Thanks for your help. Again, sorry if this has been dealt with.

With your Paperwhite connected to calibre, right click on the device icon and select Configure device (or click on the arrow on the side of the Device icon). this should open to the file formats tab where you will see a list of supported formats. Highlight azw3 and move it to the top of the list using the up/down arrow buttons on the side. The format at the top of the list is the one used for the autoconvert, AFAIR.

The order of the list biases the send when more than 1 TICKED, format is available.

Highest of the Ticked gets sent. The top is the obvious higest, but it only needs to be above the others that are ticked.

This allows you to have an Antique model support (Mobi), and still have AZW3 (or KFX) for today's models for the same book
