I don't know what, exactly, but you probably did something wrong somewhere ;p.

So, first things first: on the final reboot (i.e., dots on a white background), did you see a "[KFMon] Successfully initialized " message near the bottom of the screen? (You'll need to be watching for it, it may only flash for a very short while).
Feel free to force a hard-reboot to check again .
Unfortunately, when I click on the Koreader image, there is no [KFMon] Successfully initialized " message. Actually, I successfully install this way for another kobo device but I don't know why this particular Kobo Aura One have this problem. Maybe I have to hard-reboot as you suggested.

@toancv: That message shows up at boot time. Not when tapping an icon. (Tapping an icon trigger the icon-specific message, but that's another kettle of fish).

Because this showed up in another thread, make sure you're not feeding the script an upstream package: it's designed for the specifically crafted OCP packages available in this thread, NOT original releases.

@NiLuJe: a hard reboot did solve the problem. Thank you very much for your work and also for your assistance on my particular case!

I read everything but it's maybe a bit over my abilities with informatics.

Is there a guide that shows how to use the script?

I used the mac script, and while it worked, my Kobo was filled with previews for .png files. I wonder if these are getting indexed even though the script says Nickel is being prevented from scanning hidden directories.

@mvrana: I assume that the install script didn't complain about anything?

In which case, it already triple-checks that the relevant setting gets added, so it's kind of out of my hands after that. Either the device was badly unplugged, or the USBMS stack is being contrary and the changes weren't actually written to the device.

There's been a couple people with similar experiences in the last few pages, check that for more details (but it basically entails making sure the setting took, letting Nickel delete the now hidden files, then re-install this).

I don't know how to do this. All I could see is a new tab with full of codes, and I don't know how to proceed? Can you please help. Thanks a lot.

When I followed NiLuJe's instruction in his second post:

Windows:
"Check the previous message, and download the ZIP package that you're interested in.
Download the Windows install script, in the same folder.
Run the install.ps1 script with PowerShell (Right Click > Run with PowerShell).
That should look like this:

Follow the on-screen instructions.
Eject & unplug your Kobo, watch it process & reboot ."

After I right clicked to Run with Power Shell, a window with red words quickly appeared and disappeared too fast that I couldn't read it. Afterwards, I saw no on-screen instructions to follow.

I am using Windows 7 and Kobo Forma FW 4.19. Thanks.

@NamKK: Windows 7 ships with a PowerShell version that is too old to run this script. I thought I'd managed to convince it not to kill the window so that warning would be readable, but, apparently not.

(It's also EoL, but, that's admittedly another kettle of fish).

Windows being Windows, there are approximately seven billion terrible ways to install a recent PowerShell version on there. Going with the latest probably means the least amount of stupid cruft will make the trip with it.

One note is that for Windows 7, you need to have WMF 4.0 or higher installed prior to installing Powershell 7. I'd suggest installing WMF 5.1 from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=54616. The version of PowerShell that installs with WMF 5.1 should be able to run the install script though I haven't personally tested that.

@DNSB: PowerShell 5+ should do the job .

I've tested it with whatever is current on current Win 10 builds, as well as 6.1.1 on Linux, but, according to the docs, 5 should work .

Fresh new Kobo image (it was a mess). So let's see what's new. And I stumble in your post and this PS script. Downloaded Koreader+Plato, run the PS script....

Looks nice but somethings failing after uncompress and fixing Nickel scanning hidden dirs. Then thousand of errors from PS trying to remove inexistant files. Then installation successful.... (not)

Apart from not being able to understand what is really failing in the install process, I could do a manual install. But I guess it would be better to report this in order to help other people with same problem.

I'm on Windows 10 with PS 5.1 what possible can go wrong, right?
