It's for Virtual Panel mode. Instead of switching panels instantly, with Animation enabled, the new panel slides into place (surprisingly smoothly for e-ink).

Pretty sure it is a different code path on the Voyage, which had severe ghosting, which pretty much defeats judging on board dither quality.

On both KV and KOA2 the full color and 256 gray images look much better than the Forma and sw dither images, both of which start to darken well before getting to outer surrounding black ring and have other artifacts.

I'm assuming the problem is kindle handling of 4 bit PNG on KOA2 running fw 5.9.2. (Also, sometimes these images come up completely blank.) No time to do screenshot on KV and try conversion to 8 bit until later, maybe this weekend.

I have never seen that enabled for any comic/manga I have tried. Can you give an example of a book where that option works?

It *could* technically apply to Zelda/Rex, but I don't have any of those devices, and I've never seen any strace from 'em when displaying image content. But I'm going to assume that, no, the HW feature is never actually used, so screen grabs will do the job just fine.

@ilovejedd: Oh, fun . Not terribly surprising though, I'm pushing 55fps on a Forma w/ my crappy port of the doom fire effect ;p.

As NiLuJe has said, the flush bezels on the PW4 is an advantage in scanning and likely makes the scan look nicer than PW3 or Libra H2O. Reckon not being able to completely turn off the light on the PW3 also penalizes it.

Note, it's generally agreed upon that the Voyage has the best contrast among all Kindles.

Just received the Kobo Libra. The contrast is indeed better than my PW4. I like everything about it so far. However, there is a new issue. Almost half of the Kobo Libra screen is patchy yellowish and darker (40% of it) while the other half (60%) is brighter and has a cooler tone. The brighter side is the handle side/side with physical buttons. Is this normal? Cant really tell from the photo because my camera seems to auto compensate for the lighting color differences. The diff is more obvious in real life. Advice?

Maybe it is glue between screen layers, which is still wet out of factory. I'd suggest to wait for a few weeks, and see if it dries out. If not, then you probably should replace it.

The uneven frontlight of the Libra is a well-known issue. Mine is not even either, but I've gotten used to it. Give it a couple of weeks and see if it still bothers you too much.

I'm quite happy with my PW4. For me, Paperwhites are the best choice of the Kindles.

Oddly enough, my PW4 contrast seems to change for the better now . Manga and text looks darker under the same setting.

I tried to test a Manga last night to take pictures but my PW3 kept freezing up and wouldn't download the KU book. I've been having weird download issues on the PW4 but got that one to download at least. I finally gave up because I'm impatient. I do know the contrast is better with my PW3 and wanted to see with manga, but since I don't read that it's not the biggest deal when it comes to trying my patience with not being able to get it on both devices last night.
