Yeah, the next obvious step is indeed to try with the patches alone, which will most likely reproduce the issue, and then bisect which one exactly is misbehaving

I installed an unpatched firmware, and - voilà! - my missing letter is back again. After installing KoReader still no missing "O", but after applying the patches my keyboards lacks the "O" again.

So sorry I suspected it might be KoReader's fault! Next step is to find the responsible patch, but not today

FWIW, nothing among your enabled patches especially jumps out at me as possibly having that kind of side-effect.

I'd probably assume purely CSS tweaks should be harmless enough, but that's it.

If you want to delve into it, it's potentially going to be slightly annoying, unless you get lucky: the bisect/binary search approach being: disable half of 'em, check if it's still broken, in which case, disable another half, if not, enable another half. Rinse & repeat.
That should ultimately pinpoint the offending patch.

If memory serves me correctly, there was a similar case some years ago. It was then explained by the way Qt stores strings in a space saving way.

Between fmon and KFMon, the latest one installed will take (which explains what you've been observing), while KSM will shortcut everything.

You could probably create a KFMon config file to launch pbchess & co, but that'll take a bit of effort since it bundles fmon, and it may be using/launching it in a number of unexpected ways.

I personally have no interest in doing something like that.

KSM might be able to handle the mess on its own, but I have no experience with KSM, so you'll have to go ask in KSM's thread (which I've now seen you did,

Thanks for your help ! I finally got it all working; that's what I did:

The key issue is that I had to really reset to factory, but NOT the normal reset on the settings menu, but the full one: on the kobo glo hd, you achieve it by turning on the device, keeping the power button pressed while tapping repeatedly the lower left and right corners (see https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kobo_Reset:_Glo_HD)

I guess that some other things like these two I've installed caused my previous attempts to fail, and the reset option from the settings did not fixed them:

Thad made koreader and plato working again...

Finally, I've installed Kobo Start Menu 09 from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=293804, and it worked !

Then I've installed pbchess from http://www.pbchess.vlasovsoft.net/en/index.html, by copying only the vlasovsoft folder to the .adds folder, and then I can acces everything from KSM.

Note that as long as I've installed KSM, koreader and plato stopped working from the default kobo shell and must be executed from ksm. But that is expected, I think, 'cos launchers are mutually exclusive.

@rogerty: Yup, everything you've described makes sense (the factory reset from the menu was indeed recently updated to be much less destructive than before)

This is a side effect of some of the string-related patches (especially the "Rename new home screen footer" patch). Due to the way QT stores strings, sometimes, it will use part of another string to save space, and as a result, another string may change as well (such as the keyboard).

@Semwize: All the letters in my keyboard seemed to be correct. So from my point of view I just lost one letter. In fact it has been a change as described by geek1001 (space vs. o).

I meant that it is worth adding this to the patch description 'Rename new home screen footer' (in libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml). Then it will be easier for users to find the cause of this error (feature).

Hi all, I have been spending a few hours here to get the instructions to install KoReader on a Libra H2O. I first went for the one-click install, and it didn't go so well (I am not sure I got the instructions regarding FW 4.17+), but anyhow, i read after about the PowerShell install. Before going for that, i did a factory reset on the Libra, then pursued with the PowerShell install.
Everything went fine, but when the Libra reboots i keep on landing on the library screen i had initially with the default stock. In the process of rebooting, i can see a very brief indication that Kmon is successfully initiated though.
Is it me not seeing the elephant in the room and missing an obvious step, or is it something not working as it should? Let me know if i need to provide more details. Thanks
