From that I can tell that you do not have the most recent version of that book. I recommend removing it from your device/app and re-downloading it again. If that does not work then you can try setting the "Allow conversion to complete even if errors are detected" option in the KFX Input tab of the conversion dialog. Another option is avoiding KFX format using one of the methods described in the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 (and later) and KFX in calibre thread. |

Hello,
I had all of this set up like a month ago, and then all of a sudden kindle for PC (1.24.3) started downloading my books as KFX instead of the old format, AZW3 i guess. Anyway, i installed the calibre plugin and it works well. However, i'm not sure how I am supposed to view these? In the first post, it says to view it i can open it in calibre, however when i attempt to do that, it shows a book that is all garbled, like a bunch of UUIDs and stuff it also said i can use Kindle Previewer 3 to open them, but when i attempt to have it open the .kfx file, it says the file extension is not supported, and when i try renaming it to something like .kpf, the application crashes, heh The decryption DID work however, i can open the .kfx file in a hex editor and see the text to the book there, my problem is that nothing seems to be able to open the file Any advice? |

(i posted a message and it didn't seem to post? trying again)
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to actually view the files that get created by this plugin It seems that kindle for pc 1.24.3 has started to download books as KFX format instead of the azw3 format, so i installed the plugin into calibre and it worked fine i can see in the hex editor that the book is there, but if i open it in calibre it shows garbled text, like a bunch of UUIDs, and kindle previewer 3 seems to not recognize the kfx extension, and when i change the extension to something like 'kpf' (one of the ones it says it supports), it actually crashes the app, heh any advice? |

Quick suggestion would be to remove the KFX books from calibre and delete them from your Kindle library. Close Kindle for PC, rename the renderer-test.exe executable to renderer-test.exe.dnu (or whatever other change you want to make to the file extension). Re-download the books you previously deleted from your library and check the download to check that you now have a file with an extension of azw (B002RI9B76_EBOK.azw in a directory called B002RI9B76_EBOK as an example) in each directory. Don't worry about any .apnx or .phl files in those directories. Re-import to calibre. |

ok, so the problem is just that calibre can't open KFX files (to display them)? Interesting. OK, with that in mind, i just right clicked -> convert for some of the KFX books and that seems to work. silly of me for not trying that. post #1 of this thread says that azw3 is superior for converting than KFX, does that still hold true today? or should i just rely on this plugin for converting stuff to epub vs doing the steps listed in that thread you linked about disabling kfx downloads? |

azw3 is a still a superior format for conversion. You might want to look at jhowell's description of the files that make up a KFX ebook. I've tried converting several ebooks where I had access to the epub, azw3 and KFX formats. Both epub and azw3 converted to other formats very cleanly whereas KFX lost some of the formatting information during some of the conversions. Not quite as bad as converting PDF but not the format I would choose as a starting point. BTW, for most azw3/KF8 ebooks, I use the KindleUnpack plugin to extract the epub from the azw3 file. If the extracted file makes epubcheck go wild, then I will do a conversion otherwise I use the extracted epub.

I have the latest KFX Input, I updated it yesterday... It's 1.20.0, it's now blocking bought drm stuff. Please make available the prior 1.19.x version as now I can't read my bought content unless I use the android kindle reader which is a disgusting piece of s/w.

As an alternative, the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 (and later) and KFX in calibre thread lists ways of working around KFX. |

Hi. I started using this plugin a few days ago but I had no success in converting a KPF file exported from Kindle Create to EPUB. It does convert without any errors, but the problem is regarding images. They're really big when viewing in full screen mode, making them distorted. I tried many output profiles including tablet, but it does nothing. Text looks good and well aligned, I just can't figure out how to stop images resizing beyond their dimensions.
