You mean for full screen image detection? Yes currently the heuristic is fairly simple. If you have examples of markup where it fails I can make it more robust.

Dear Kovid,
1) I can't tap, using Chrome for Android, to move to the next xhml/html file (any epub). Moving to the previous file (chapter) is ok. On PC, using mouse-clicking, everything works fine. (Edit: this happens even in version 3.48) 2) Is it possible to support @namespace now (I'd like to hide epub:type="footnote") 3) Is it possible "long tap to select multiple texts" on Chrome for Android now? |

1) Please see this file.
2) [epub|type~="footnote"] {display: none;} and @namespace epub "http://www.idpf.org/2007/ops"; works in the Editor (the content is hidden), but not on the Viewer (content shown). Last edited by nqk; 09-27-2019 at 06:04 AM. |

Left/Right margin settings not being properly honoured
See attachments, the zip contains the EPUB and the originating DOCX.
The images show the problem when viewed in order I also note that the left and right edge widgets with the previous and next arrows are not the same width - left is wider than the right. BR |

On reflection, I suspect that the new viewer is treating the first page of my EPUBs as covers, none of my epubs have covers, I remove them with the Modify plugin.
Does that explain why I am not seeing the margins on the 'real' pages ? BR Last edited by BetterRed; 09-27-2019 at 06:38 PM. |

@BR: Yes if there is no cover in the EPUB, as per the EPUB spec, the first page of the EPUB has to be treated as the cover. The viewer is designed to always show a cover, so a rendering of the first page will be shown as the cover, in such cases. It's not quite ideal and I would actually prefer to show an autogenerated cover in such cases, but its complicated for technical reasons having to do with how awful format EPUB is, so will probably get to it sometime later.

Use the inspect tool to see what that attribute actually looks like and write a selector to match it. As far as I know the viewer reserves namespaces when processing HTML. Or send me a file showing this behavior and I will take a look.

The Check Book tool in the calibre editor doesn't complain nor does the Epubcheck plugin in the Sigil editor. If a cover is mandatory would have expected one or both of them to complain. I discovered what happened to the margins, they got reset to default settings - I must have clicked wrong button at sometime. I really miss font resize buttons, and search. A cover is not mandatory, if there is no cover, the rendered first page must be used as a cover, which is what the viewer is doing.
And there is both search and font size changing controls so not sure what you are missing. |

![]() I used to get an idea of how far I was into a book from the scroll bar button, Now I occasionally see a % read in the 'status' line but most of the time I don't. So that's another thing I miss. BR |

In fact, IIRC epub:type="footnote" gets mapped to role="doc-footnote" as in anycase the EPUB committee at some point deprecated the epub namespace and replaced it with role. God knows if they rolled it back again or not, I gave up on them a while ago.
