Yeah, that confused me too. I was on 4.5 and it didn't run. "A recent 4.X firmware is required." seemed to imply to me that it should, but closer investigation showed some libc shenanigans.

@Frenzie: Yeah, it took me a while to find my notes the last time I had to, but 4.6 is the exact FW when the glibc was updated
![]() And that's what the current Kobo TC targets (along with... peculiar kernel (A 4.0 rc :?) & CPU choices (A9), if you were to follow it for more general purpose stuff). |

@perisiana: Okay, I've fixed my logging because that error message had me confused (SQLITE_BUSY being described as "database is locked" and SQLITE_LOCKED as "database table is locked" is, err, mildly confusing, to say the least).
It's apparently just a case of Nickel being busy with the database, which can happen on older FWs. That it only happens on the Plato icon on your device is I'm going to assume purely coincidental ![]() If it ends up actually bothering you for other things, you can try increasing the db_timeout setting. The (easier?) solution is to simply update to a recent 4.x FW, as that bit of insanity isn't a problem anymore there ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-17-2019 at 12:00 PM. |

So I updated my KA1 to 4.17.13694 and then had to reinstall KFMon so I could use KOReader. Unfortunately it was getting late and I accidentally unzipped the install file into the .kobo directory instead of the top level. After the Kobo rebooted I now find I have a "book" for every image on the device in Nickel's My Books section. I reinstalled KFMon and have now got KOReader back again, but having all these extra "books" is bugging me. Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of them?

And once you've cleared the extra cruft from your .kobo directory, you'll want to read the NOTE I added to the first post so that Nickel won't try to index stuff from inside KOReader & Plato's folders, even when they're installed in the right place
![]() (And probably you'll then have to reinstall 'em, because Nickel will have deleted a few icons in the process ^^). TL;DR: Don't get it wrong on FW 4.17+, or things get slightly trickier. Or just use the install scripts, they take care of everything. Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-23-2019 at 10:21 AM. |

Which file do you mean? At the moment it's showing me books for about 200 png files that are in .adds/koreader. Obviously I can't delete them without causing more mayhem. Or do you mean use the Remove option under the "..." menu next to the image in My Books? I didn't want to do that in case it deleted the file itself...

@sladflob: Whatever you put inside .kobo that shouldn't be in there
![]() Note that seeing KOReader's icons being indexed by Nickel happens to be a new feature of FW 4.17+, which might confuse the issue some more (especially if seeing those icons getting indexed is what made you think "uh oh, I messed up". So, did you actually unpack stuff in the wrong place?). Quote:
Hence the emphasis on doing it right the first time around and in the right order ![]() TL;DR: Use the install script ;p. Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2019 at 12:54 AM. |

But I did also mess up - KFMon wasn't working and then I found the KFMon files still in the .kobo directory, so I realised I'd unzipped them in the wrong place. When I deleted them and installed KFMon properly the icons were still there so I assumed that was a consequence of my earlier mistake. I did wonder how it could be that unzipping into the wrong folder could cause it to happen! I would have thought that, at worst, it would do nothing, which is what it seems actually happened. Thanks for your help @NiLuJe and @davidfor |

Okay, yeah, so you do need to do everything, in order:
* Clean up the mess in .kobo (which, hopefully, should basically be the .kobo/.adds folder, as well as potentially the .kobo/icons folder and the koreader & kfmon PNGs inside the .kobo folder. You should also have an *empty* .kobo/.kobo folder that you can remove). * Tweak the config file to prevent nickel from scanning those custom folders. * Unplug. * Wait & watch Nickel destroy the icons from the stuff installed in the *right* place. * When it's done (there's unfortunately no clear signal, except maybe for "the book count in the 'My Books' tile stopped decreasing". Except I've seen that counter sometimes not actually getting refreshed on the Home screen, so, double-check from inside the Library view), plug it back in. * Reinstall KOReader/Plato. You're now starting to get my repeated comments about doing it right the first time around, as messing it up gets annoying real quick ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-23-2019 at 07:15 PM. |

Thanks so much for this, I'll do it tonight when I get home. Silly question, but which config file?
Also, will reinstalling KOReader lose my book positions etc, or should I back them up before? I take your point about doing everything right the first time. Thing is, I probably wouldn't have read the thread to find out about the new "feature" in the Kobo firmware anyway. My original plan was just to reinstall the same (old) version of KFMon that I was already using because I didn't imagine it would have changed much. I guess if I use the script to update then that would avoid this situation. |

I want just saying thanks again, I have read my first English book on Koreader and the translator was really helpful, I'm sad that I haven't found a good English-Italian dictionary but whatever, also I love all the options in Koreader.
I have installed it again after having applied Geek1011 patch that prevent Nikel from importing the files under .folders so all those annoying PNG files are gone from my library, yay again, everything is perfect ![]() Last edited by perisiana; 09-23-2019 at 10:14 PM. |

@sladflob: c.f., this post in particular.
Sidebar: I'd recommend not sticking with an old version (of anything, really ![]() @perisiana: I'm repeating this, mostly for future readers: do note that the new setting we've just been discussing achieves the very same thing (preventing Nickel from picking up KOReader's icons, among other things) without having to monkey-patch Nickel ![]() (i.e., unless you have a specific need for the preload approach, I'd recommend new users stick with the setting. Which is why that's what the install script uses ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2019 at 01:05 AM. |

All done! Spurious icons deleted, KFMon and KOReader reinstalled, and no data lost. Thanks for all the help @NiLuJe!
