What to look for in a chair
I know there are threads on chairs already, but I'm looking for the latest information and thought a fresh thread would be best.
I need to get a reading chair. This will be the chair I sit in to relax while I read or watch TV. Requirements: - must have good support, particularly lumbar (absolute requirement) - must have arms - I'll want to put my feet up, but I can make do with a stool if necessary - I don't want a bulky chair - chairs costing $1000s need not apply Feel free to mention brands and models. Feel equally free to mention features that you feel are necessary. Anecdotes are welcome. I will be trying to compile a list of generally accepted chair principles (GACP) that I can apply to chairs I find. Unfortunately, I don't have a big store within a reasonable distance where I can go and test drive chairs. I'm going to have to buy one sit unsat. tia |

The most comfortable chair I've ever plunked my rump into was an Eames lounge chair knock-off that my folks had back in the 70s and 80s. A genuine Eames chair would set you back several thousands, but a good "Eames style" chair can be had for much less. I haven't looked in years, but probably a couple of hundred. Quality will vary greatly among the knock-offs, so shop carefully, but the one my folks had lasted many years.
If you Google "Eames lounge chair" you'll see plenty of examples. Also, I found a Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eames_Lounge_Chair Last edited by cromag; 09-03-2019 at 02:41 AM. Reason: Wikipedia entry |

Thank you. I went back and looked at the other threads about chairs and the Eames featured well there. I've been looking at imitations and can get one for about $500, which is easier to justify than thousands.

I went dumpster diving for mine; fortunately, I live in a nice neighborhood with state and federal buildings nearby. The chair's similar to this one. Clicky:
Serta at Home Style Hanna II Office Swivel Chair You could search on eBay for chairs of the same caliber. The shipping might be expensive, though. Last edited by trichobezoar; 09-03-2019 at 03:54 PM. |

That will be something to look at when I replace my desk chair.
