Open cover in default image viewer app
Apologies if this has been answered before - my search didn't come up with any appropriate results!
Is there a way I can open the cover file in my default image viewer (Irfanview) while on the Editor screen?

Not directly AFAIK, you can export to say desktop, edit and reimport.

I use the Sigil book epub editor's Open With feature if I want an external editor.

At the moment I open the book's folder, edit the cover in Irfanview then save the file before polishing the book. Hoped to skip a few clicks...

You can open a cover in an image editor from the library Book Details - might save a click, or use a kb shortcut as I have viz:

I press 'Shift+I', up pops IV I do what I want, save, then press 'P' for Polish.

If the SAME cover is what you see in Calibre GUI:

Simply edit that, then Polish/embed/modify EPUB, that into your book from the Library GUI
