I always have issues when I stare at a screen too long. TV, computer (anywhere), even my smartphone. PWM might be a factor, I'll look into it.

Again, how effective is an e ink screen in reducing eye strain?

Malcolm, thank you for your post about PWM. I get a lot of headaches and migraines, and I think PWM is a big part of the problem. I need to buy a new monitor without PWM soon!

Right now it will add it to the Recently read section but its not tracking the visual progress in Recently read. Though it does open up where you left off in the book....

1) Do you notice that using this this tablet (and E ink screens in general) reduces the strain on your eyes?
2) I'd be mainly interested in just browsing the internet (and perhaps use some android apps). Does the browser function properly?
3) I've heard that there are security issues with its version of Android? How true is this?
1) Yes. I am prone to getting eyestrain from LCD screens, but I don't have the same problem with e-ink. The e-ink screen for this device causes no more eye strain than a printed book will.

2) Since it is an Android device, you have your choice of browsers. I normally use Firefox, because Android Firefox supports extensions. It works fine, and it includes a reader mode for reading articles. By clicking an icon by the navigation bar, you can display an article with formatting of your choice and without any surrounding ads or navigation stuff taking up space.

3) I am not a computer security expert. I just have the common sense to avoid untrustworthy apps, websites, and stores, and so far, I have not had any security issues with this device. Unfortunately, reports are that later versions of Android do not work with e-ink devices. For the present at least, you just don't have the option of getting an e-ink device with a more recent version of Android. I do hope this changes in the future.

It's an old Dell monitor. I used my phone to video record it at different brightness settings. The flicker was bad. It was even worse with f.lux lowering the blue light emissions. It looked like a bad acid trip.

It looks like Viewsonic monitors are all (or mostly) PWM free, so I will probably get one of those.

Tft central to look up good ones. Did you use https://www.testufo.com/blurtrail to check the PWM? And yeah f lux can increase it depending on the panel and whether it has driver support.

A comment way back said this device is OTG capable. Has anyone used a usb mouse or keyboard with it? I imagined using it to write, I recall an eink typewriter that was pretty expensive, this would be a lot cheaper.

Also, what about an Ethernet to usb? Could it receive internet?

In reference to post 540: I purchased one from Amazon and it arrived today. The first thing I noticed was that the housing was slightly separated from the screen, like in your picture, but not as dramatic. It's going back.

Hope you get a good one, i'm still loving mine. You might be able to slightly squeeze it and the clip will align it self but who knows how it's held together.

I have a Likebook Mimas, which I think differs from the Mars only in screen size, and I tried to connect a USB keyboard (well, actually a combination bluetooth and USB one) after the discussion in the E-ink typewriter thread. It didn't work over the USB connection (with or without toggling the connection mode, apparently a workaround for Android 6 OTG bug) on the Mimas, so I don't think OTG works on the Likebook Mars or Mimas, though I would be be glad to hear if there is someone who can share their experience to prove otherwise!

However ... the Jellycomb keyboard worked fine via USB on my Mac, and via Bluetooth on my Mimas, so I'm still happy with it. The mouse pointer from the built-in trackpad on that keyboard lags a lot on the e-ink screen on the Mimas, but is just about useable.
