Only Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_dx_install.bin can be recognized. Any *k3* JB cannot.

You're right. I'm absolutely headless. I found the method in Thread: "Font, ScreenSaver & USBNetwork Hacks for Kindle 2.x, 3.x & 4.x"
"[Post 3214] Author: NiLuJe Date: 12-11-2013 09:09 AM The 3.x on DX thing has always been a weird thing to setup, do a search in this post, you'll probably have much more detailed answers that what I can barely remember, which is that you need to overwrite the linkfonts folder by the one from a k3 package. " Of coz I don't want to mix JBs. I tried to update 3.2.1 clean and install JB 0.13.N. It failed with U007. Quote:

Which of the install files in the archive did you try to install. If not from the archive posted at the first post of this thread, then where from (link please)? Then list the steps you took as best as you can remember them. |

1. Update Kindle DX from 2.5.8 to 3.2.1
1.1 Ran the update_dx-2.5.8-prepare_kindle.bin from https://yifan.lu/p/kindleupdater/ to backup 1.2 I don't have a Kindle 3, so found the precompiled 3.2.1 package http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6432..._and_Kindle_DX 1.3 Update to 3.2.1 2. Jailbreak 2.1 Download kindle-jailbreak-0.13.N.zip from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=88004 2.2 Unpack and extract Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_dx_install.bin, put it to Kindle DX / folder 2.3 Eject and unplug USB 2.4 Update 2.5 Failed with U007 Also tried kindle-jailbreak-0.13.N-r15585.tar from http://cloud.ak-team.com/. The same. |

That's normal. A JB install on an already-JB device *will* fail w/ U007.
From what I recall, one iteration of a JB is bundled in the Frankenstein'ing process, though, so you may be able to install *some* legacy packages, as long as they're packaged properly for that, and that specific JB knows how to handle them. No snapshots, though. TL;DR: Unless you can get KUAL to run (which is non-trivial on Frankenstein'ed devices), you can't use snapshots on a Frankenstein'ed device, as they require MRPI, which requires KUAL on FW 2.x/3.x/4.x. As for the "install the variant that goes through UYK; then dump the folder manually from the other" quote, that was 5 years ago, and even then, that applied only if the version matches exactly, which is definitely not the case between a release & a snapshot
![]() It *may* work, but it may also go horribly wrong, depending on the hacks, and the exact version delta, hence the CliffNote's version being: don't. |

Don't update a DX to 3.x in the first place?

Using instructions I found here,
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=312489 I got to this part, and downloaded your K5 Factory JailBreak The read me says: Copy main-htmlviewer.tar.gz to the Kindle root directory. (i.e., /mnt/us) I cannot find this folder on my kindle. |

As to what directions say, I did a simple copy/paste job, changing nothing.(which would be counter productive) Nevertheless, I see what you're saying, and I will copy straight into the main Kindle directory in windows("K") in my case.... Thanks mate. ![]() |

I'm hopelessly lost. Been trying various things, and not getting the hoped for results.
Got the jail break done. That part worked. Trying to get Kual installed, following the instructions found here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=203326 While I got a kual listing, I get the blank page, so I redid it, using the KUALBooklet-coplate-78183a5-20181209.zip as found here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=304 Sadly, I still get the blank page when launching kual. I'm at a loss, and my brain hurts. Note: If I should be asking the questions in a different thread, just point me in the right direction. Thanks. |
