"Fear" sells more than 750,000 copies its first day - Page 6

I regularly look at new arrival listings at my library's Overdrive site and I know that over the past year I have seen books that were pro-Trump/anti-Democrat, so they do exist. I don't remember titles because they are not books I would plan to read (I don't normally ready political books from any viewpoint.)

That's an interesting standard. I'm pretty much isolated from publicity, so something can be heavily publicized and I might never hear of it.

The fact that I haven't come across such a work doesn't mean it wasn't heavily publicised. The fact that no one has yet posted here with an example, however, does tend to support that conclusion.

Hmmmm.... a quick search at one library I access shows the following three books as newly added.

Liars, Leakers, and Liberals by Jeanine Pirro (or Judge Jeanine Pirro as the book cover refers to her)

The Russia Hoax by Gregg Jarrett

Death of a Nation by Dinesh D'Souza

There was also America, the Farewell Tour by Chris Hedges though this book seems dedicated to the proposition that everyone except Chris Hedges is deliberately blinding themselves to the corporate coup d'état which is responsible for everything from the opioid crisis on to global warming.

There are actually a lot of pro Trump books out there, several of which are best sellers. There was an interesting editorial, I think it was in the WSJ, earlier this week that talked a bit about the echo chamber and what stories various media outlets choose to report on. The basic jest of the editorial is that one reason that one side of the political spectrum doesn't understand why a particular issue is important to the other side of the political spectrum is because the media that they read doesn't report on the issue, while the media that the other side reads does. The article gave several examples. I think that the writer has a point.

I suspect that most conservatives think that Fear sunk like a rock, just like most liberals have no idea that Gingrich's Trump's America was a best seller.

@pwalker8. You may well have a point here. I tend to get most of my publishing news either here on Mobileread, The Passive Voice or The Digital Reader.

Going to Amazon, learning that Fear is in the "Politics & Government" category, going to that page, and the Deep State is the next best seller. Clicking on that reveals that buyers of that also bought Trumps Enemies. Some from DNSB's list are further down. I think those and others were higher last week. I think that is enough digging to show that pwalker8 is correct that there are a lot out there. I hope that lays the "I've never seen any, so they don't exist" theory to rest.

Question for those that have already read the book (or listened): Is it fair to say that Fear is only geared towards readers that are already anti Trump and look for confirmation bias? If it doesn't allow to form your own opinion, then I am afraid the book is not for me.

@Duckie. I'm not a big fan of political memoirs from any side. Just this one seems to be getting more publicity than most.

Maybe it's getting more international coverage because of who the author is or something? Not sure. Quite a few "Pro" and "Anti" Trump books have gotten quite a bit of coverage on the US in the usual spots when they were about to come out (or so it seemed to me). I can't say for sure as much coverage as 'Fear'. I generally tune out when political books on either side are being mentioned on TV and stuff so am probably not the best judge.

I saw the usual reviews of Fear when it first came out, but haven't really heard anything about it since. If I recall correctly Comey's book was reported to have sales figures in the same range as Fear. Political books usually sell well to the faithful. There is a reason one see's stories about famous politicians getting big advances.

The posts about the contents of Fear have seemed to me to be getting increasingly dodgy in the context of the MR guidelines. I've started a thread in P&R for those who want to discuss the political aspects and implications of the book itself and the story it relates.

it does say that Fear is outsold by Micheal Wolff's Fear and Fury which has sold over 2 million
