If you are using one of the built in fonts (at least most of them, can't remember if it's all of them or not), tap on the "advanced" to the right of the font name in the font menu. That will allow you to adjust the weight, which will allow you to basically bold the font. For non-built in fonts you'll have to check out the various patches at least one of which will allow you to add weight adjustments to sideloaded fonts.

If you patch your Kobo you can make advanced features available for the publisher's default also. You can also find some nice, dark fonts to add to it. I'm using DejaVu Serif E-Ink and Constantia — which I found somewhere on this Forum. Last edited by rcentros; 08-28-2018 at 01:49 AM. Reason: left out "with" | |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=310163 Make sure the patch is for the firmware you're running if you choose to patch. |

I don't know if the Samsung tablet I saw at the Walmart I went to was that big, but it was a pretty big one. I'd guess it was at least a 10", but I really didn't pay much attention to it.

My sister just ordered something (not a Kobo) shipped to store, and it came with a coupon for % off her next ship to store. Dunno if that was a special last week or is something they regularly do.

Wow, that ad is horrible! It looks like a photo of a tablet which they did a really bad job of trying to make look like an ereader. Too glossy, too dark -- even if the light was off -- and too big for any of the ereaders they're selling. I get that it's really for the ebooks, but they couldn't get a picture of someone holding a Kobo?

Patching is what makes the Kobo software worthwhile (to me). There are various things you can change with patches. So you can already add any font you want to a Kobo, easily. But as you saw with publisher's default, advanced font options aren't available. However there's a patch that will enable advanced features on all fonts. There's lots of other tweaks available like that. I'd say use your Kobo for a little bit to confirm what you do or don't like. Then you can investigate patches. There's plenty of help available for you here. |

I guess you're probably right about that. I notice the pictures of the eReaders on Walmart's eBook (Kobo) website are also terrible. The Reader's screens look gray, grainy and blurry (the Walmart "staged" pictures are the bad ones, not the ones they got from Kobo – see attachments). How in the world does something like that get okay'd?
