Slay Ride is a title in the Johnny Liddell series by Frank Kane. It is free right now at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Slay-Ride-Pro...dp/B007SPFH12/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/slay-ride-6

Spoiler:
Quote:
Johnny Liddell was looking forward to his 2:30 a.m. date with Eve Wylie. Eve had thick red hair that fell down over her shoulders like a molten copper cascade, and Eve had a sullen soft-looking mouth that held more than a casual promise for Johnny Liddell.

So when he got to her apartment, and found the date was off, it came as an unpleasant shock.

Not that it was Eve’s fault. There was very little a girl, with her throat cut from ear to ear, could do about a broken date.

Solemn Vows is the 2nd in the Marc Edwards series by Don Gutteridge. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004V9O5FM
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/solemn-vows-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
A search for a man armed with a rifle that hasn’t been shot since the war of 1812 leads to an investigation that takes Marc Edwards from a newspaper office into the mansions of the Family Compact, and even to the local brewery, as the clues he uncovers point closer and closer to home.

Now lieutenant in charge of security at Government House in Toronto, Marc Edwards is eager for action in both his personal and professional life. His letters to Beth Smallman in Crawford Corners have gone unanswered and writing speeches for Lieutenant Governor Francis Bond Head is not the stuff of excitement. Then, during an election speech by Bond Head, a shot fells a government minister sitting just behind him and Marc on the hustings. Marc’s troop gallops after an armed man who flees the scene, killing him when he points his rifle at Marc’s chest. Then they discover that the rifle has not been fired since the war of 1812.

Mortified by his troop’s mistake, Marc accepts the help of Horatio Cobb, one of Toronto’s three constables in its brand new police force. He also accepts the affections of Eliza Dewart-Smythe, who is almost, but not quite, as beguiling as Beth. His investigation takes him from William Lyon Mackenzie’s newspaper office into the mansions of the Family Compact, and to the local brewery, as the clues he uncovers point closer and closer to home.

Bloodlines is the 9th in the Irene Kelly series by Jan Burke. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Bloodlines-Ir...dp/B000FC2RTK/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The year is 1958. O'Connor, a young reporter with the Las Piernas News Express, is desperate to discover who has perpetrated a savage attack on his mentor, Jack Corrigan. In and out of consciousness, Corrigan claims to have witnessed the burial of a bloodstained car on a farm, but his reputation as a heavy drinker calls his strange story into question. In a seemingly unrelated mystery, a yacht bearing four members of the wealthy Ducane family disappears during a storm off the coast. An investigation finds that the Ducane home has been broken into; a nursemaid has been killed; and Max, the infant heir, has gone missing. Corrigan recovers his health, but despite a police investigation and his own tireless inquiries, the mysteries of the buried car and the whereabouts of Maxwell Ducane haunt him until his death.

Twenty years after that fateful night, in her first days as a novice reporter working for managing editor O'Connor, Irene Kelly covers the groundbreaking ceremony for a shopping center -- which unexpectedly yields the unearthing of a buried car. In the trunk are human remains. Are those of the infant heir among them? If so, who is the young man who has recently changed his name to Max Ducane? Again the trail goes maddeningly, perhaps suspiciously, cold.

Until today. Irene, now married to homicide detective Frank Harriman, is a veteran reporter facing the impending closing of the Las Piernas News Express. With circulation down and young reporters fresh out of journalism school replacing longtime staffers, Irene can't help but wish for the good old days when she worked with O'Connor. So when the baffling kidnap-burial case resurfaces, Irene's tenacious love for her mentor and journalistic integrity far outweigh any fears or trepidation. Determined to make a final splash for her beloved paper and solve the mystery that plagued O'Connor until his death, Irene pursues a story that reunites her with her past and may end her career -- and her life.

Bruno, Chief of Police, apa Death in the Dordogne, is the first in the excellent (IMO) Bruno series by Martin Walker. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Death-Dordo...dp/B004EYT55Y/

Spoiler:
Quote:
EU inspectors are causing havoc in St Denis and local tempers are running high, but is it really cause for murder? The first acclaimed and internationally bestselling case for Bruno, Chief of Police.

'Hugely enjoyable and absolutely gripping. Martin Walker has got off to a flying start in what promises to be a great series. Bruno will be the Maigret of the Dordogne' Antony Beevor

Market day in the ancient town of St Denis in south-west France. EU hygiene inspectors have been swooping on France's markets, while the locals hide contraband cheese in their houses and call the Brussels bureaucrats 'Gestapo'. Police Captain Bruno Courreges supports their resistance. Although, here in what was once Vichy France, words like 'Gestapo' and 'resistance' still carry a profound resonance.

When an old man, head of an immigrant North African family, is found murdered, suspicion falls on the son of the local doctor, found in flagrante playing sex games surrounded by Nazi paraphernalia.

But Bruno isn't convinced, and suspects this crime may have its roots in that most tortured period of recent French history - the Second World War, a time of terror and betrayal that set brother against brother. Now it's up to him to find the killer - but will the people of St Denis allow him to go digging through the past in order to do it?

Mr Churchill's Secretary is the first in the Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia MacNeal. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK, possibly due to the newest title in the series coming out in about a week. I've read and quite enjoyed several of the titles in this series.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LSGMTXQ

Spoiler:
Quote:
London, 1940. Winston Churchill has just been sworn in, war rages across the Channel, and the threat of a Blitz looms larger by the day. But none of this deters Maggie Hope. She graduated at the top of her college class and possesses all the skills of the finest minds in British intelligence, but her gender qualifies her only to be the newest typist at No. 10 Downing Street. Her indefatigable spirit and remarkable gifts for codebreaking, though, rival those of even the highest men in government, and Maggie finds that working for the prime minister affords her a level of clearance she could never have imagined—and opportunities she will not let pass. In troubled, deadly times, with air-raid sirens sending multitudes underground, access to the War Rooms also exposes Maggie to the machinations of a menacing faction determined to do whatever it takes to change the course of history.

Ensnared in a web of spies, murder, and intrigue, Maggie must work quickly to balance her duty to King and Country with her chances for survival. And when she unravels a mystery that points toward her own family’s hidden secrets, she’ll discover that her quick wits are all that stand between an assassin’s murderous plan and Churchill himself.

In this thrilling debut, Susan Elia MacNeal blends meticulous research on the era, psychological insight into Winston Churchill, and the creation of a riveting main character, Maggie Hope, into a beautifully crafted mystery.

All three of Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X / Evan Smoak thrillers are on sale for $2.99 today. For fans of the old television show The Equalizer (or the newer movies) these are a good read.

Orphan X
The Nowhere Man
Hellbent

The prequel short story Buy a Bullet is $1.99 but I think that is normal price.

I don't remember what originally caught my interest, but I've had this on my wishlist since 2012 and it's dropped to $0.99.

As @bookmarked mentions above, it's probably worth taking a look at the Simon & Schuster sale on right now, with lots of titles going free and also at $0.99 and $1.99 (including the Frank Kane and Robert Barnard ones I mentioned a few posts up).

So far I've noticed titles by: D.C. Brod, Nancy Pickard, Loren D. Estleman, Randall Peffer, and others. I'll come back and add more later.

You can use the link in @bookmarked's post to get to the thread for the sale, and then my post near the bottom of the first page gives some hints for how to narrow down the various searches just for mysteries (and some other genres too).

EDIT: A few other authors I recognize: Stephen Greenleaf, Stuart Kaminsky, Mary Logue, V.C. Andrews. Some have a freebie or two, some have $0.99 or $1.99 titles.
