Hi Guys, I am having a JB-ed PW2 running fw 5.9.2. Does an upgrade to 5.9.6 lose jailbreak?

Hi to all.
Trying to JB a kindle8 (KT3 black). Following the wiki method step 4 does not works. After copying factory_KT3_5.8.0_initial.bin the "Update Your Kindle" option is not available in the menu. After that I return to USB mode and I can check that the .bin file has been erased. ¿Any clue? As said in that wiki my kindle should be "jailbrekable" I have fw v5.9.6.1 Thanks in advance |

@elreymon: Double-check the FW version your provided and the very first thing written in there about FW versions...

Hello everyone!
Several years ago, I jailbroke my Kindle Voyage. After upgrading to a newer model, I stopped using it for a while, but have recently wanted to bring it back into my e-reading rotation. I just checked the firmware, and it's currently running 5.6.5 (which now that I'm used to the UI changes from the last few years, feels pretty dated). My question is: how far up the firmware ladder can I upgrade my Kindle Voyage without losing my jailbreak? And what is the best way to do so? What makes this tricky is that since it was a few years ago, I don't remember which jailbreaking method I used (it may have been the 5.6.5-exclusive method instead of the one in this thread). Is there a way to check? Apologies if this isn't the right thread -- please redirect me if this is the wrong place to ask! |

Many people with Paperwhites and Voyages stop at 5.8.11, the reasons are in this thread as well, mostly having to do with KUAL. The main thing is to not reset your Kindle ever now that it is jailbroken. The precautions mainly make it easier to get your applications requiring jailbreak working again. |

Simply reinstalling the bridge (or the hotfix) from my Snapshots should give your system a booster shot

Yes, simply install Coplate's "nomax" build of the Hotfix thru UYK. You'll end up with a directory /mkk/ in the user visible storage containing the bridge code required for the jb to survive a fw update. Then upgrade to the appropriate v5.8.11 fw via sideload. That's all...

(Note: the snapshots have updated code that deals with the KOA2 better, among other minor things I already forgot about
