Different file structure for separate libraries

I have created a new physical library for my comics, and I would like to manually organize the filesystem for my comic library—mainly because I don't want my comic file structure to be arranged by author. Excuse my ignorance, but is there a way to do this? If so, can I apply it only to the comic library and not my main library?

Thanks,
md

Calibre DELIVERS (no need for you to even know the file structure)
Just use Openwith to designate which app to use for a specific format.
use Send to Folder to build a share flash drive

Okay, so here's where I'm having trouble: I'm using mostly custom columns to tag my comics, and I've noticed that Calibre seems to be creating a new folder and an extra copy of the comic file each time I open one of them. I don't understand why this would happen, but I don't need duplicate files being created all the time! Any idea how to make this stop?

Not sure if this is your issue but has calibre been set as the default application for opening your comic book files?

It was, yes. I've now started opening them with a different comic reader. Seems to resolve the issue.

You might try setting the default open to calibre's ebook viewer instead of calibre itself if you want to use it to view files. If you set calibre to open the file, calibre will add it to the library which seems to match what you were seeing.

I see what you're saying. That wasn't it. It wasn't creating additional records in the library itself. It was actually creating a new folder with a new copy of the file on my hard drive each time I opened a .cbr in Calibre's ebook viewer. I think I've resolved the issue by opening the files with another app, though. It's just strange—I can't imagine why Calibre would create extra copies of a .cbr file upon opening in the Calibre ebook viewer.

The calibre viewer is an EPUB Viewer, it automatically converts non-EPUBs into something it can handle. The images making up a CBR or CBZ are exploded into a directory named xxxxxx-comic-extract (where xxxxxx is a random string, e.g.hrcqpm) within the TEMP directory. When the viewer is closed the xxxxxx-comic-extract folder is deleted.

In which directory are the "extra copies of the .cbr files" being created? And have you redirected calibre's temporary storage location via the CALIBRE_TEMP_DIR environment variable?
