I want to have 2 separate calibre libraries available on my laptop

Right now I have a calibre library on my laptop opening from a folder in dropbox. However, I would like to open another calibre library from an external hard drive that I connect to my laptop also. Is there anywhere to have 2 libraries set on my laptop and be able to switch between these two anytime I connect my extra hard drive?

Thank you.

Create Switch: Use Existing
will add the Libraries to the Quick switch List

Connect your HD and use the Disk Management to assign a specific drive letter, that way, whenever you plug in the drive, regardless of which USB port, it will always get the same letter (and Quick switch will work). I use L:

BTW running FROM a Library inn the cloud is not recommended.
Also: Pause the shadowing when Calibre runs or you will get problems

Hi Ducks,

Thanks for your response.

So do I choose "Switch/create library..."?

If so, it gives me a dialogue that has 3 choices:

1. Use the previously existing library at the new location

2. Create an empty library at the new location

3. Move current library to new location

So... which one do I choose?

Also, what do you mean by pause the shadowing? Where can I do this and what does shadowing do in Calibre?

Ducks means to be sure you're pausing the DropBox software before opening Calibre (unpause after Calibre is closed) so it's not trying to sync files while Calibre is working with them.

Whichever one you want to do... Are the choices unclear?

Do you already have a library on your external hard drive, or do you need to create an empty one?
