It's 13 degrees here and feels like -4 with the wind chill. We are under a wind chill advisory until noon Saturday, with night time wind chill temps of -25 expected. That is well below our normal temps. I haven't gone out all week, but my sister is having minor surgery at the tumor site tomorrow along with having a chemo port inserted, so she has to go out early. The hospital has a deck and covered walkway, so it's not horrible to park there.

We got some snow last night, fluffy dry 2 inches or so.

Haven't heard from our son who lives just north of Philadelphia, but looks like they are getting lots of snow right now.

We got about three inches of snow, maybe four. It's tough to be precise because it's dry, powdery snow and it's blowing around. The big factor in this storm is the wind -- we live on a wooded ridge and the wind is roaring through the trees like a freight train. (A cliche, but true.)

The good news is that the snow should still be dry and powdery tomorrow, when the winds should be much calmer. You don't really "shovel" this kind of snow -- it's more efficient to push it. And I just bough a new "plow" style snow shovel yesterday. Woo-hoo.

Currently 9°. It's officially cold in Tidewater. The snow is going nowhere. Here's the view this morning from our rear window:

Meanwhile the local news was telling people to stay inside because the blizzard's winds were knocking people off their feet.

In the midst of single digit wind chill readings, Mr. Wren (a Carolina wren that winters over underneath the deck -- next to the furnace vent -- he's a smart cookie) starts warbling at the top of his tiny lungs whilst sitting on the deck rail.

So on go the endless layers of warm clothes ... and outside I go to distribute bird food & squirrel food at the two feeding sites (black oil sunflower seeds, nut & berry wild bird food, peanuts, and corn). Bright sun and freezing cold, with a biting wind.

Inside now and thawing out now.

Good for Mr Wren, for speaking up about his needs!!

Yeah, I bundle into several layers of coats, plus hats, etc ... just to go 10 feet with the dog, for a piddle. My neighbor lets them go onto her deck (ugh). *Sometimes* my girl needs to go further, to do the rest of the business. So I go to the extra effort of suiting up, in case it's that time.

Well, plus, I'm going to work every day too. It was 0 when I woke up today, at 9:30.

Our dog goes down the steps and piddles off the side if we are lucky. He goes a bit farther to finish.
He is old so we understand if he doesn't want to go far. (This was before the cold snap.)
