This is wonderful! I had almost lost hope of being able to read my Kindle books in my RapidReader® software.
I was concerned, however, by repeated failures of all the downloads of KindleForPC-installer-1.17.44170.exe to match the hash for SHA-256 until I realized that there was a space in the string between ...5176 and 2C12...

When I run the above command in terminal it says it cannot rename because it doesn't exist. Following the next suggestion for finding the name location I can't even find a listing for my newly installed version of Kindle for PC under program files even though it's installed and launches.
Any help appreciated.

It won't be under "Program Files" - that's for 64-bit applications. Look under "Program Files (x86)", which is where 32-bit applications live.

Look at the properties of the shortcut for it. That'll tell you where it is.

If you have the Kindle4PC icon on your Windows Desktop you can right-click it and select the 'Open file location' menu item. That will open File Explorer at the directory containing the main Kindle.exe program. renderer-test.exe is in the same directory. You should then be able to just change the filename manually.

What command would I put in the terminal for that?

You don't need to run it in a terminal at all. With the correct directory open in File Explorer:

Find renderer-test.exe and select it. Right-click it, select the 'Rename' option and overtype with a new name of your choice. Your original post suggests renaming to renderer-test.xxx

The file path began with my user name, then appdata, local, amazon, kindle, application.

Kindle4PC did not install in either Program Files directory on my Windows 10 x64 computer. The shortcut point into my AppData\Local directory as seen in the shortcut properties:

C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle\application\Kindle.exe

Right click on the desktop shortcut, then click on "open file location" and you will be in the right directory. As a random bit of information, %localappdata% is a short cut to the current users AppData\Local directory. For more information, check Common Folder Variables.

And as a minor nit, for Windows, it's a command shell window or console window. Terminal is a Unix/Linux term.

Personally, I prefer 1.17 since 1.21.1 places each ebook in a separate directory which makes it a bit of a pain to import more than one book at a time.
