Yeah, it's a shame those two things don't work together. It could be a backdoor way to add books to the partitioned memory. (I guess it still is, but at the point of adding third party readers that don't work with the page turn buttons, it becomes a 'why bother?' issue.)

If I'm wrong in these assumptions I'm fairly sure downeaster59 will correct me.

Let's see if I can clear things up - and not make the water any muddier!

The stock Nook reader can open books that you've purchased from B&N (of course) and downloaded with the stock reader. It can also see and open ePub books sideloaded to that 1 GB partition. The stock Nook reader cannot see or open any books you might put on that B&N partition in any other way (e.g. Calibre Companion). To read those books, you need to install a compatible Android reading app - preferably, one that plays well with eInk.

If you install a launcher and apps, your installed reading app(s) can find and open any books you've loaded on the B&N partition. These apps cannot find and load any books you've bought and downloaded with the stock Nook launcher/reader. These apps cannot access any books on the 1 GB "sideload" partition.

Ergo....

To access your stock Nook books and any books sideloaded on the 1 GB partition, you need the stock Nook launcher/reader.

To access any books you've sideloaded with Calibre Companion (for example), you need to launch your installed launcher and open your installed reading app.

Now, everyone has their favorite Android reader apps. I find that, overall, AlReader works best for me. It also has an eInk mode, so it looks good on eInk. Moon Reader is good, but doesn't look quite as good on eInk. If you use the Outdoor theme, however, it's pretty good. Either can easily find and open books sideloaded with CC. Each has its strengths and its flaws, but either will do a good job.

With root, it is possible to find and access the folder where the stock Nook reader stores your downloaded B&N books, etc. However, I am not messing with it. I assume that the Nook reader is set up in a certain way, and expects its books to be in a certain way. I do not intend to give it indigestion!

And yes, you can choose between Nova Launcher (or any launcher you install) and the stock Nook launcher - every time - unless you choose one as default.

I like the new Nook, I really do. But that all just seems like more trouble than it's worth. You'd spend more time screwing with the device to get past the side loading limit than you would reading books.

Of course, I know for some folks that's the point No insult to you guys.

No insult taken! I can only speak for myself - but I do enjoy the challenge. Having had the Glowlight Plus was a big help, as the same methods worked for the Glowlight 3.

It's like a ritual - I have to mess with a new device, see what it can and can't do, before I get down to actually reading with it. I like the "messing around", but it doesn't beat a good book - and I've been known to read a few... like everyone else here.

If I didn't love messing with my devices, I would have a much lower number of factory resets to my name. Nothing like using your ereader to SSH into a switch for sheer fun and collecting strange looks.

I own a Kobo, so you know I don't mind messing a little bit. Kobo's software kind of sucks out of the box.

But I want to get the device set up and not mess with it again. I'm not like that with PCs, just e-readers.

I understood that immediately after downeaster59 explained what could be done with ADB and the GlowLight 3. My reaction? Great! Now at least I know I can use that extra space that I probably would never need anyhow. It was the potential of being able to use that RAM that made me happy – even if it wasn't a straightforward process.

My chances of actually needing that extra space? – about zip to zero. On my Nook Simple Touch (bought in 2011) I've got 192 MBs free of the 240 MBs available. I don't really see any need (personally) to carry thousands of books on an eReader. Books can always be shuffled in and out.

That was kind of my reaction. Looks a LOT like a Nook Simple Touch. Which is a good thing in my estimation.

It looks like the GlowLight's price is currently at its Black Friday price of $100.

Quick glance, it is similar looking to the second Kobo as far as the design goes.
