I don't have strong feelings about the quality of frontlights. I think they are all pretty good now. However, the Glowlight 3 is the only 6" reader that offers the color change. So I could see it being considered best in class.

Honestly, it was just the way you said it's not the best, but then never backed it up in any way that intrigued me. I thought maybe you had one that was the best and a reason for it.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I was talking about the hardware. Even in the message you quoted I did say "While I like the Kobo software, I'd give it up today for the Glowlight 3 if they hadn't so severely partitioned the memory" so I'm pretty sure you knew what I was talking about.

The Tolino Vision 4HD has a color changing light and it is using 6" Carta screen. I can't say which is better.

We don't have Tolino here.

Because I'm a nerd, if/when I take a trip to Europe, I plan on going into stores to check out the different e-readers available there.

Reference deleted. Could you have found a less offensive way of saying that in your opinion, the "Toledo" is garbage?

On a different note, where did you obtain your Tolino ereader and which model was it? Shipping to North America does not seem popular with a lot of European etailers.

Before today I don't think I even knew the Tolino existed. Now I'm curious why it was (is) "garbage."

Does this new device still send snippets of side-loaded content to B&N with the reading-habit reporting?

Not if you keep the wifi off, it doesn't.

If you're side loading, why contact B&N at all?

So I can make use of that storage that is reserved for B&N content? Otherwise, I have an ereader with less than 1GB of storage.

If you're willing to go the ADB install route, you can install a launcher, Calibre Companion and your favorite reading app(s) without rooting. All those apps will live in the B&N content partition, including any books you transfer to the device with Calibre Companion. Yes, it can be done.

The stock Nook reader will not be able to find these books, though. It looks only in its own folder and in the sideload partition. So, you'll need reader apps to go along with any books you put on by CC.

Couldn't you install a File Manager and copy files from one partition to the other?

And if you go the ADB route, you can no longer use the reading software that comes with the nook and you then have to find a reading app that works and works with whatever version Android is used. A lot of Android reading apps do not respect the CSS properly. That makes finding a good reading app that will work with the nook not an easy task. It jut doesn't make sense to have to change the reading app just because of the partitioned storage.

Where do you get this information? According to the images in message #169 of this thread, it appears that (after installing Nova Launcher) you can choose EITHER Nook or Nova Launcher as your "Home" app at boot-up. What downeaster59 appears to be saying is that books side-loaded to the main memory of the GlowLight 3 via ADB can not be read by the built-in Nook reading app. I don't believe this effects books side-loaded in the traditional way to the 1 GB partition or to books purchased from B&N and loaded into the main partition. If I'm wrong in these assumptions I'm fairly sure downeaster59 will correct me.
