Convert EPUB 2.0 to 3.0 and vice versa
Is it possible to convert EPUB 2.0 to 3.0 and 3.0 to 2.0 using Calibre?

Why would there be a need to convert an ePub 2 book to ePub 3? All ePub 3 readers can read ePub 2, and conversion would add nothing in the way of new functionality.

I think there is this perception that converting to EPUB3 gains features.

This would be like converting a 78rpm shellac to DTS encoded disc and expecting Concert Hall, surround sound (without clicks and hisses )

Exactly. Unless you plan to edit the book and add ePub3-specific functionality, it's a completely pointless endeavour.
